I'm SOO FLAMING MAD!! Must vent!

I SERIOUSLY can't believe that! And yet it's YOUR fault if an attack toddler HURTS your dog/s and causes them to nip!

We were at a plant nursery a couple summers ago and this guy had his English Bull Mastiff with him. My daughter was QUITE impressed (and in awe)...she told me she wanted to pet the dog...so I told her to ask the man if she could pet him! He was VERY excited....even offered to put my daughter (about 4 at the time) on his back and take a photo with my cell phone for us! Apparently, he PURPOSELY took him out into public and had him around people to socialize him. (I felt the 'riding' was 'beneath' the dog's dignity...and my cell phone is older than my child...still!...so no photos.) But it was nice to realize this gentleman had done his homework on the animal's bloodlines and was actively socializing his 'puppy'...he was also VERY happy she ASKED to pet him.

I guess people just don't teach their kids to have a 'healthy respect' for much of anything anymore!

On the flip side...my former neighbor's dog (sled dog mutt) once lightly grabbed my cat my her head in front of us. (Head IN his mouth) My neighbor looked at me like "wow...didn't think he'd do that!"...NO apology...no NOTHING! (She was at MY house!) Fortunately he didn't bite down! (This dog had a decent prey drive...killed a mink and took down a fawn in the woods! - but had NEVER done anything like that around a cat before.)

Are you KIDDING ME?!!?!? She just grabbed the leash of your Cane Corso AWAY from you?!?!?!? She hadn't even "met" your dog yet?! Ok...now I grew up with pit bulls...and have a healthy respect for them. Have fought for my arm with my own dalmation, had my nose ripped open by a terrier mutt...even been nipped by a black lab! BUT NEVER would I be BRASS enough to do something like that with a Cane Corso!

I want to say to you SillyChicken...GOOD JOB of doing such amazing job of training your dog! It pees me to no end that people ASS-U-ME certain breeds have been given a 'bad rap' and that all owners TRAIN their dogs! Those are the people who get responsible owners and trained dogs into trouble. Why would you even take leash away from someone anyways? (I mean at least w/o being ASKED.."hey...could you hold on to my dog for a sec?")

What REALLY upsets me is when people get OFFENDED when I YELL at my child to NOT touch a strange dog...even one on a leash W/O FIRST asking the owner if it's ok! (MY dog is fine....blah blah blah - I was bitten by my OWN dog!) It's called having a "healthy respect"...more people should do that!

Heck yeah, and not only that but she was on her knee smoozing up in his face!

Thanks BTW, I am so glad it was my boy (my female wouldn't have put up with it). He was one of the first CC's in the US, to get a CGC, TT, CD, and a BH and was fully PP trained (we were also working on schH but he became ill). He was an amazing, loyal and tuned in to me so much.. a very protective dog. He was so obedient, that one time the decoy came up behind me right after a bite session.. without a sleeve, the dog didn't know it was not still an excercise.. and he went after him. I called him out as his teeth hit the mans arms, didn't leave a scratch.

I've taken bites by shepards being serious, and my boy in play and I swear I'd never want to be bitten by a serious CC . .. I miss him horribly. I've got 4 CC's and I've never let them associate with anyone's kids... not that my dogs would hurt the kids on purpose ever... but I was afraid of what people would do that could come to harm to the dogs... just like what the OP was posting about. People in their zealousness to help animals sometimes can cause more harm to the animals than good. I also always appreciated and praised parents and kids who asked permission.

It sounds like you're taking the appropriate actions to try to keep this woman away. I would put up surveillance cameras or at least new big signs that say the premises is under surveillance to help deter ANYONE who may be up to no good. I am also nervous that something could happen to my pets because some people see fit to steal whatever they want. I hear too many instances of this kind of stuff happening. I hope this lady stays away, if she doesn't, when she has no reason to be on the property, it should be reported to the sheriff. Good luck! BTW I think your mini horse is adorable. I had a terminally ill dog (cushing's disease) made her hair fall out and lose weight. I spent hundreds on her meds and vet bills to keep her happy and comfortable for as long as I could before the decision had to be made to euthanize her. I remember I was so angry with the way people stared at her and me like I was doing something wrong. In the vets office, people would move away like she had something they were going to catch. People's ignorance never ceases to amaze me - but thankfully that doesn't apply to everyone.

I was at the farmer's market with Isaac a couple of weeks ago and some little kid (3 or 4 years old maybe) was literally running circles around him shrieking! Good thing Isaac is such a good natured dog with no prey drive because that kid was acting more like a wounded rabbit than a human. Of course the parents were just smiling at how cute their kid was.

I have an extremely old disabled dog who was never very friendly to begin with, but now that she is an old lady she really has no tolerance for people messing with her. She also happens to be very cute, so people really want to pet her. When we are in public I hang a sign on her that says: CAUTION! I AM OLD AND CRABBY!.
I can't tell you how many times people will read the sign, then say something like "You little cutie, you aren't crabby..." as they reach forth to pet her. Then when she tries to snap at them (luckily she doesn't have many teeth left), they look at me all offended and say "your dog just tried to bite me!" It happens ALL THE TIME! That's what the sign is for! She's old and crabby!

You know they used to hang horse thieves

Seriously, though, you have a beautiful girl there, she looks FAR from abused!!!

Aye, the more serious the sign the better. Ie. "Do not pet dog". No 'please' or 'thanks' about it either, or I find such signs get ignored.

I had a friend who had a sign that read "warning attack dog on premises" some guy came over and wanted to know what an attack dog looked like. He got bit and sued her. The judge stated that she advertised that she had a bad dog. what is that all about. The judge never said anything about the guy tresspassing on her property at all. The best course of action is telling meals on wheels that the lady is there to deliver food not tresspass on your property and touch the animals, she has not right to be in your backyard at all. That she does not wash her hands after doing so. Then tell them that she is cross contaminating the food by touching the animals then touching the food. Tell them that what if someone is allergic to the animals she is touching and ends up having a reaction to it, who is going to help that elderly person? That if they cannot stop her you will go over that person's head or call the police on her. Do not forget to tell them what she said to grams about stealing the mini horse!
