lol, ya she's teething like a bossHey Sky...just curious...did (or is) Jupiter go through a (for lack of something better to call it) "teething" type phase, where she would pick and pull at all things? (Pants, shirts, carpet lol) Just wondering because Cas is incredibly uh...active today! I watched him tug so hard on the carpet he fell backwards! Lol (Of course I corrected by giving him one of his toys that he CAN tug on)![]()

I let her nibble on my zippers or anything I don't mind she shreds. I avoid wearing clingy clothing when cuddling her because she gets my skin and that smarts! I don't let her nibble my skin. I gently push her beak away and she usually moves on. I've had to do the "no skin" beak grab on occasion. She doesn't like that, lol. It only takes one time and she learns. Do you guys have room to throw a hunk of sod in his space? that helps A LOT. Jupiter gnaws on the sod (4 x 2) and it helps keep her off stuff we don't want her chewing on.
Oh, Umbrellas are such pretty birds! How nice to have rescued this bird! I used to keep Lovebirds and Cocketiels. And yes, they CAN become one person birds. They would get so attached to me that they bit anybody that came near me! LOL I had a single Lovebird that hung out with me all day long. She would get on my wrist as I was washing dishes or vacuuming, screaming for me to work harder or faster. LOL She would snuggle under my shirt at night while watching TV. She would sit on the shower rod as I showered and guarded me, so she thought. LOL She lived to be 12 years of age. Average for a Lovebird. Gosh I miss that bird so much!
How old is your Umbrella? Where did she come from?
Oh that is just awful!! I am so sorry! But I am very glad you found her.Biscuit was dumped in our trash by someone roughly 10 years ago when we had our farm. Had she not said a weak "Hellllo?" We wouldn't have known she was there and...I shudder to think what would've happenedWhoever dumped her, put her in a shoebox with no food, no water, no note. She had plucked herself completely everywhere she could reach. She had mites and worms and her growth permanantly stunted from poor feeding. She's a tiny thing for an Umbrella. She's just about the same size as Cas is right now! She'll never be fully feathered (she'd done so much damage to her follicles some feathers will never come back) but we love her dearly. She's been with us now for a bit over 10 years, and the vet estimated her around 2 years old when we found her in our trash. Cockatoos can live upwards of 60-80 years, so we will have many many more with her to come
