It seems like our hen can't breathe. Or eat. Or drink. She was fine yesterday morning. When we went to put then up for the night she was Laying on her side gasping for air. We are newbies doing the bet we can. We checked her crop, it feels kind of like a balloon right now but that could be the sugar water we are trying to give her. Whenever we get food or water in her mouth she wakes up and seems scared like she is choking and flails about for a bit... On her neck there is something hard. ( inside) we were thinking maybe she fell and has hurt her neck, or maybe she swallowed something and it is logged in there? I tries to upload a video but don't know how. She seems a little better than last night. Occasionally when we give her water she shakes and sneezes... Please help!

How old is your chicken? It is possible that she swallowed something or has a growth that is blocking her esophagus or her airway. Can you look inside the throat with a flashlight, while someone holds her? She sounds very seriously ill. Is a vet a possibility? Have you had this chicken long or recently added other chickens? Have you seen any mold in the bedding or around the coop?

She is about 8 weeks old. Her sisters have all been with her and they are fine. There are no vets in the area that treat chickens. We looked in her throat but can't see fat enough down to where we feel the "lump". It's not really a lump as it seems kind of sharp. Because of the way it feels we don't want to massage too much and risk it hurting her more.

Have you felt of the other chickens' necks just to see if you are feeling a protruding bone? Chickens will eat glass, metal, plastic and all sorts of things. Is the hard object above the crop or near it? Sometimes a large animal vet who does farm calls will sometimes see a chicken if they are familiar with them. You might try any local vets, or ask about vets who have chickens, since there are a lot more backyard flocks nowadays. I really hope you can help her.
