Impacted Crop

Hey All- I have a hen who is molting and her crop is impacted. Did oil and massage last two days. It seemed like I moved some of the impacted material down into the gizzard. When I left this morn for work it was a tennis ball size and after the massage was more like a lime. Should I keep doing it? I did leave her with her mates (only three). Also gave her plain greek yogurt... Suggestions?

isn't grit in the soil? I do sprinkle oyster shell sometimes... Do I have to buy this?

I have had luck with a little oil and crop massage but I've also had a stubborn case of a hen who could not pass the obstruction in her crop so I took her to a vet and he performed a simple operation to incise and empty the crop and sew her up. She recovered quickly and did fine. Trick is finding a vet to treat chickens, fortunately I have one nearby. Good luck!

We have had our 3 hens for about a year with no health or physical problems. Unfortunately for us that provided little to no experience in possible ailments and treatments. Today we rescued 6 hens who were abandoned and fending for themselves for at least a month. 4 of the 6 show no signs of anything wrong. The largest two, however have softball size crops which are predominate and noticeably hard to the touch. In researching similar situations an impacted crop seems to be the prognosis and coconut oil and massage the treatment. I would appreciate if this can be explained further to how much oil, feeding restrictions, and message techniques would be most helpful. Thank you for your time.
