I have an orpington/brahma cockerel whose crop seems to be full and feel like a squishy sand bag. He is eating well and is active but. I with held food for a day and it didn't empty out. I gave him some mash mixed with oil last night and massaged it after he ate. What else can I do?

This is a little extreme but you could surgicaly empty the crop. You would need scissors to trim away the feathers, Knife for cutting open the crop and gloves so you can empty it without spreading desieses. I wouldn't reccomend this you would need to quarentine him for a week and watch him. if you really think he has a impacted crop I would get him to a vet!

I'm not sure if it is impacted or not. I would like to try something a little less invasive first since he is still eating and drinking. He is already quarrantined because we are treating him for a foot infection. I got him a little over two weeks ago and he was already in bad shape. Feet are clearing up nicely now we have the crop problem.

It may be sour crop. Here's my post from a few weeks ago. I had a pullet with sour crop. Sounds kinda the same. Great advise in there. Good luck and keep us posted.

The "squishy" that you say tells me sour crop over the impacted crop. I believe it would be hard and and big not "juicy" and big.
