I have a chick, probably about 4-5 weeks old that has had an impacted crop for a couple days now. I have not given her any food for a full day, but she has plenty of fresh water. I hate to starve the poor thing and I don't know what else to do for her. Any suggestions? I know It is bothering her and she keeps jerking her head around.

Does she have grit ? You know for sure her crop is impacted, checked in morning and at night,no change in size?

She did not have grit before, but now she is on only sand, since I separated her from the others. I'm pretty sure it is impacted, but I've never had this happen before. It has gone down a little since she hasn't had any food for a full day, but now it doesn't seem to be going down any more. The first day I tried to gave her mashy crumbles, but then took all food away. I'm not sure what is the right thing to do. Give her soggy food or no food? She is a speckled Sussex, if that matters.

Search on here for impacted crop and using olive oil down the mouth, (careful not to aspirate the chick) then massage the crop to help either pass it on or bring it up.

I have done some searching, and read about using oil or water down the throat, but I'm worried I wouldn't do it right and would drown the little chicken. I have tried to massage it but it's very uncomfortable for her. She was on hay before sand, so I think she must have eaten it. That's the only thing I can think of.
