Hi, I have a dump truck load of concrete sand scheduled to be delivered in the morning for the floor of our new coop. I thought I had researched this well but at the last minute I thought I would ask the guy where I'm getting it from if this sand had "silica" in it. Just being a supplier, he said he didn't know and would have to find out. He called back and said yes, that all sand does. He also added that his sand comes washed.

Is what I'm getting okay or do I need to cancel? I'm worried now. I would never want to get anything that would harm my babies!

You should be fine. Silica dust is bad for the respiratory system so it is good that a lot of dust will be washed from your load. He is correct in stating that all sand has a percentage of silica (even silica free play sand). Technically...... inhaling anything but good fresh air can be problematic! I wear a dust mask when I cut the fields or in situations that dust is created.
