Yesterday my older sister and I found some orphan ducklings. There are no laws protecting ducks in New Zealand so we took them back to her house(I was staying the night with her). I'm back home and there are three ducklings. When we got them they were probably a day old, so I am now trying to adopt them to my broody hen, who also has eggs hatching and one chick.

She however is being aggressive to the babies, she'll peck them.

What can I do? My mom REALLY doesn't want me to brood them myself. I need help.
What do I do, the hen has raised ducklings before.

:hugsfor saving those ducklings.
You may need to sneak them under hen at night,(dark) when she is not noticing. In the morning, she may just assume they hatched out from under her. :idunno
WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, :highfive:

Thanks!!! We saw the ducklings in the middle of the road with no mom in sight. We got out of the car and they dashed for a nearby pond(we couldn't leave them as there were hawks, purple swamphens, eels and cows) We managed to rescue all six(with help from my sister's boyfriend and her friend)

my sister's BF took three home to care for(he has two chickens already, and his parents are avian vets, so they have lamps and such) I took three home, and that's where this story begins :)

UPDATE: I took the ducklings away and snuck them under at night. They jumped out from under her feathers a few times, but eventually settled down. The broodies early hatching baby seems very happy to have some company. The broody is still a little uneasy, but isn't attacking them now, which is great.

You’re a kind soul. The world needs more of you! Thank you for not leaving those babies behind to certainly be easy prey!! How compassionate, kind and empathetic of you. I like you... a lot! ;-) And I hope your karmic reward comes swiftly and abundantly! XO

Thank you! :) That's really sweet of you to say.

Good job saving them. A brooder is your best bet given the history with mama hen, so you are doing the right thing.

Thank you:) They seem to be fine in the brooder. They'll still cheep loudly for their mother, it's really sad that she can't be with them....
