In search of the darkest egg

Hello everybody
Which lays a dark, next to black egg?
I have heard some say the black copper marans
and others say the penedesencas
I don't want to end up with a terra cotta egg

If you want the darkest eggs out there, go with Black Coppers. And my next advice is, go with someone who shows photos, who does not cross two purebred lines together and give you the "F1" chicks, and in most cases, go with someone who has pure, closed lines. I've seen that some lines originating from Wade Jean out there are pretty dark.


If you're not too concerned on the eggs being the darkest available, very few Black Copper Marans will give you "terra cotta" eggs, most if not all will give you a bloody red egg, from a "fresh blood" to a "blood from the liver" color.

the guy i will be ordering from is in Quebec. there is not alot of hatcheries I can work with in Canada. but this one sounds good
I guess I will have to ask him some questions. should I ask him where his lines are from or is that a no no
