IN TEARS--ENTIRE HATCH RUINED! UPDATED

So this morning I got up & the incubator with the goose eggs was at 103.2!

Sighs. I think those are done.

Of course, I'm going to leave them in there--but it's going to be a LOOONNNNGGG 30 days waiting for those to hatch.

The other incubator, was at 102.1!

I candled my brahma eggs last night & it looked like I had babies in 2 of the 3. The two cochin eggs I candled both looked dead....but there are 14 others....so I'm hoping at least to get a couple pullets outta the bunch....so we'll see.

Next year, I'll just save money & buy a pair of goslings! LOL

Ok, by any chance they are wafer bators, and the metal piece that you use to control the temp is on the outside of the bator? If so, try putting a plastic cup or a towel on the knob. Reason it may start to run higher at the thermostat is because it "feels" colder when the ambient temp drops during the night, and the metal knob conducts the cold air to the wafer. 102, 103 isn't really that big of a concern for me personally if I see a spike as such. 104-105 is.

One is a Hova Bator, the other is an LG. The LG is SUPER touchy--if you breathe on it, it will spike. It has been as low as 93 and as high as 103.2!

The room they are in is pretty cold (about 60 degrees). But it's the only room that stays at a consistent temp. My other bedrooms get too hot and/or have direct sunlight in them. And they have to be in a room with a door shut or the cats chew the cords and/or sit on the (warm) tops of the incubators....which is nerve-wracking because one of them is about 20lbs.

Do you have a water weasel? I put my thermometer probe right in that sucker- tape the ends closed and that gives me a pretty good idea what the eggs are inside. I couldn't find the weasels this year at walmart or claires. The dollar store had them though- big ones almost 8 inches long. They are also a good heat sink. I have 4 in my sportsman- 2 in each tray with eggs. All the temps are pretty much the same.

Okay--so I candled everything last night...

And:

I have three Light Brahma eggs that are on day 19 today. They were moved into the higher humidity incubator this morning. They just looked all solid dark...so I'm hoping that's a good thing?

The Cochin eggs--I candled them again. They were set in there on the 12th. I started with 16 & now I'm down to 11. I have at least 5 of them that look good--veins, dark spots, etc. And two that are probably garbage and another four that I'm iffy about--including the one which looks like there are TWO babies in there...no change, other than the two spots are looking larger than they were a day ago.

As for my Sebbie eggs...sighs...I know two them are garbage--they don't even look fertile. One looks good, another is a *maybe* and the other I'm not sure on...but I just ordered another three, so we'll see.

Oh & I won Blue Muscovy eggs on eBay without even knowing it! I bid like $1.25 and WON 6+ of them! So now I'll be setting those eggs, as well, LOL

You know when my incubator went crazy a few years ago, it rose to 108!. It's true that I lost a lot of babies.I had so many sebastopol eggs in there. I had pilgrim goose eggs in there. I did have 1 little pilgrim girl hatch that was soon missing the fluff on her neck soon after birth. I attributed it to the heat surge. I named her Turtle [as in needing a turtleneck]. It was a very expensive error...........

Well, I've really only got room for three or four full-grown geese--but I still want a pair to hatch (as in one male & one female). LOL

I have those other 3 eggs on the way--which will go into the Hovabator, which seems more consistant & reliable....
