I have posted about this before, how we are moving to Florida from S. Illinois and I wanted to take my 25 pullets and roo but decided not to due to the state's tough regulations about bringing in poultry. I found 2 good homes for them, and just sent my roo and 5 pullets off to a great home where I know they will be loved and cared for. I thought I was OK with it, but when I put my buff Turken girl in the kennel with the others it really hit home. She was one of my favorites and I am in tears. Those chooks have given me so much enjoyment--just watching them and their behaviors brings a smile to my face.

In the morning the rest of the girls will go to our friends who actually got us started in chickens-so again great home and I know they will be OK. I didn't know I would be so sad about this. I had to rehome one of my horses over the weekend also (he went back to his former owner and is in great hands) so I am just an emotional wreck.

I really hope this move (to be closer to daughter, son in law and grandsons ) will be worth it............ I will have chickens again, as soon as we get a coop and all the set up ready. I guess it may seem silly to some to cry over chickens, but probably most of you here will understand. Thanks for listening........

So sorry you have to re-home your chickens and horse, glad you were able to find suitable homes for everybody. Those chickens have such individual personalities and it is amazing how attached we can get to them. Glad you can look forward to seeing your family more and you will all be able to share the all your new chicken experiences in Florida with the grandsons.

It's not silly, and you have a lot of changes that affect your emotions going on right now. Finding new homes for your animals that you have been enjoying and caring for and then relocating yourself. That's a lot for a person to absorb. I'm glad you're planning on getting new chickens once you're settled, and maybe you can get another horse, too, if you can't bring your buddy with you. Enjoy those grandsons!

Totally understandable. I was upset when my little Miss Ruth died. I had her for just a few months and had gotten attached that quickly.

You're a good person though. Many wouldn't have taken the time to find homes for everyone. I hope you can get some new chickens soon.

Moving is such an emotional time. Rehoming all your pets is like ripping your guts out. I had one friend tell me she'd rather rehome her husband than get rid of her horse. I kept the horse for her for six months before she was able to transport her equine buddy.

Take heart that you were able to find everyone a home. Saying goodbye is difficult. We all feel for you.....be safe in your move.

Thanks so much for the kind responses! You are so right about going through an emotional rollercoaster with this move. I don't handle change very well and change is being thrust at me right and left. This was our first year with chickens and I raised them all from a few days old. There are good memories and the chickens that I do get at our new home will benefit from everything I have learned raising this first flock.
