Along with what dawg posted above (3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months), are you letting the dogs meet on neutral territory before bringing it to your home? It helps with seeing if they will get along in the long run.
Growling between new friends is normal. Feed in separate areas. Make sure the new one doesn't have full reign of the house at first and that any other animals have their own quiet places to retreat to. Introducing a new dog takes a bit of work- even puppies coming into a home isnt smooth sailing for resident dogs. They all have to learn their place.
