She was on some meds for her separation anxiety and they want to take her off those before they send her home.

Better have her taken off now to see her unmedicated/unsurpressed behaviour before bringing her home.

It would be very sad if you had to return her because you did not see her real self before making the important decision to make her a family member.

She has only been on meds for a bit. The shelter knows and told us about her personality.

I didn't see my dog's real self for 6 months after we got her so don't be surprised to find that the sedate, stoic dog you brought home turns out to be a bit nutty down the line. Or that the hyper nervous dog develops I to a warm, sedate couch buddy.

Looners was a stoic, unflappable and generally disinterested dog when we got her. When she realized we were her tribe FOR REAL (she had 4 or 5 homes over her short 20 month life when she came to us), she blossomed into a most excellent dog. She and I are synched and know what the other is thinking. For instance, I can see when she's ignoring the turkeys and I can see when she's interested in murdering them all just by a subtle change in body language. The way an ear turns to track a turkey's footfalls. All it takes at this point is a hand signal or finger snap to break her intent, though. She knows. And she knows I know she knows.

I would think if her separation anxiety is bad enough for her to be on meds, it's really bad. I hope you are prepared for that kind of training. It is not easy.
