I first thought, "Why is it sideways." Then I saw it. Cute!

So does my son. I tell him, don't say those things out loud. My son doesn't do the unicorns, but It all started when he was five and got the flu and I read the 'My Father's Dragon' trilogy to my boy.  It's been dragon ville ever since.  I accept that they are fantasy, but they should have two hind legs and a set of wings. Six appendages makes the classification between reptile and insecta. He doesn't accept my science.   

I have always believed that in medieval times they came across a dinosaur skull and assumed it was a massive creature of reptile descent and so they called it a dragon. The rest is history!

Me too! And the wings got added for a good story. So I let the story be. Too much analysis ruins the fun.

Well its assumed that cyclops came from looking at mammoth or elephant sculls.

Not necessarily, there were pterodactyls with massive wings and long snouts with teeth.
