in this random rambling thread we post random pictures

Boot camp in Chicago must be like a war zone. I think it's Spike Lee who wants to do a movie and called it CHIROC & The Mayor does NOT like it.

None of us like it. It distorts the image of the city, and it's the type of thing that will stick for years. It took us 50 years to get rid of the Al Capone image.

Despite what you hear from the frantic fear mongering 24 hour news cycle, crime rate is way down from the 80's; crime rate is about the same now as it was in 1961. Only difference, in 1961 when something happened, only people within a half a mile heard about it; now everyone in the world hears about it immediately, with breathless news announcers hyping it up.

The Image of Al Capone still rears it's ugly head. My brother travels a lot and as soon as folks hear he used to live in Chicago, they want to know if he ever saw Al. Used to happen when I had foreign pen pals ( long before computers),- Boy, am I old!

I'm going to sound like a real grouch here, but this is the kind of thing that makes real miniature horse lovers' blood boil. That girl weighs nearly as much as the horse does. As minis go, he's one of the sturdier types, but would anyone expect a 120 lb. Rottweiler to be able to carry around an 100 lb. person? YouTube has scads of videos of teens riding minis, and they often say things like, "he's such a brat, he hates it, but I do it anyway," and I want to ask them, "has it ever occurred to you that the reason he hates it is because it HURTS?" Even if this is a posed shot, done entirely to be "cute," it gives people the wrong idea. Would it be just as cute if her boyfriend was wearing a saddle and on his hands and knees, and she was sitting on him?

That would probably be funnier!
