I was driving down the road when something caught my attention outside the passenger window. A snake was writhing there. I pulled over, searched for it and as I lifted the hood of the still running engine I saw it slither into the engine compartment. I waited and it didn't emerge so I drove on another few miles thinking perhaps it had fallen out and then its head appeared at the front of the hood as it came from the grill up over the hood toward the windshield a bit and then disappeared. I pulled over and searched again. No sign of it. I drove on. A few miles later I stopped for gas and gave the undercarriage and engine compartment another thorough search, pounding on things as I went. No sign of the snake......until I got home 75 miles away and opened my door.
When I shut the door the snake's head emerged OUTSIDE the truck and appeared caught so I opened the door a little and it slithered through the opening and onto the driveway and made its way into my neighbor's yard. NEVER AGAIN, I hope.

We do that with frogs and lizards a lot. A mouse or two... but not a snake. I don't think.
