Was in a far corner of my property the other day and spotted this. My neighbor was over the next day, and I took him to see it. Sure enough, it was his rooster who disappeared two weeks ago, victim of a raccoon. The raccoon dragged it a couple hundred yards, across the creek, and onto my property. The roo was a beauty. Sad.

My neighbor is getting an electric fence wire to top his fence, I told him to hurry and do it, since the raccoon knows where his chickens are. In the meantime he's been keeping them locked up.

He lost several couple last year. He's tightened security some, but he doesn't have his in a fortress like I do. I need to go over and look at his setup, last I looked it seemed good but clearly isn't good enough. He's planning on the electric fence, that should help a lot.

I caught a raccoon in a trap I purchased from a local store. I was stunned at the damage he did to the cage during the night. He didn't manage to escape but the cage was no longer functional. When dealing with these critters get STRONG wire. Hardware cloth is the best.
