What is on this poor creature? Maggots maybe?

Not maggots at all. I took the pix with a phone cam. (quickly, and one handed, so the focus did not really adjust well ether) These are my outdoor pet squirrels that I feed daily. They get BOSS, in 7 different spots in the yard. That way there is no fighting over food.

Very blurry but maybe the Seed shells hulls of what he's eating?

You hit the nail right on the head. Possibly sunflower seed shells, and small crumbs of bread that I toss out on the ground. The chickens get in on the feast at same time. You can see some feathers in that pix on left side.

Is that an odd color for a squirrel, or is it the shadows??

I have a bunch of these BLACK squirrels, as well as GRAY, and BROWN . Here is the size rundown.. (not by very much though) Largest are the brown,, In the middle are the gray. The black are the smallest. BUT >>>>> they seem to be at the TOP of the pecking order when at the FEED CONTAINER.. That is one reason I place feed in multiple spots

We don't have any black squirrel, but that looks a little like our little gray ground squirrels. Mostly here we have big chunky fox squirrels. I'm absolutely terrified of rats, but I don't mind the fox squirrels.

Thanks. He's a vet, so his insurance is amazing.
I have used the charitable hospital here when my appendix was removed.

My husband passed last year. Also a vet. I have his insurance now..it's amazing. I've been to the hospital a number of times since his death, and specialists, Drs..I've never gotten a bill. Only dentist and eye Dr. Now, I've called that annoying commercial number about Medicare..got it ..have dentist partially covered..and eyes and hearing aids if needed! Plus I really did get money sent o my SS. Thought it wasn't for real until my daughter's daught in law started working answering phones for them. Glad she told me about it. She says so many people keep asking..how much? She keeps saying, nothing. Some still don't believe it.
