my home built incubator is pretty simple. a plywood box basically with a hinged lid with an 8X10 picture frame for the window in the top. the dimensions are 30" wide, 16" high, and 16" deep. at one end i have two light bulb bases, next to the lights is a partition that is 3" off of the floor of the incubator, in the top center of the partition is an old computer power supply fan that is blowing toward the lights. it forces air down and over the lights one 60 watt bulb and a 40 watt bulb. the air travels under the 3" space under the partition, blowing over a pan of water with a sponge in it. above the pan is the hardware cloth that is about 4 inches off the bottom. my eggs set on this. i have to hand turn them. i use a reptile thermostat for temp control. its basically a dimmer switch. i have two digital thermometer / hydrometers to monitor conditions. the upper portion of the side with the eggs is lined with styrofoam. if i could figure out how to upload pics of it i would. my eggs are hatching today. this is my first time hatching. it is way cool. i have never seen an egg hatch. i am able to put about 45 eggs in it with a little room around them. i had the eggs in cartons until day 17, then i placed them on some foam padding that has that egg carton look on one side. worked out perfect. i have seen so many cool incubators that people have built on this website. this site is awesome. i gained all the knowledge i needed to learn to build mine.
