Incubating and hatching eggs chat thread!!

I'm on my 3 batch. So much fun! Still learning at what I'm looking at when candling.

In case you haven't seen it, there is an awesome candeling thread. It has clear pictures of candled eggs daily. It is called something like: "!!!Chicks are here!!! ...

My parent stock are offspring from birds from Magnolia Silkies, Hollycroft hens and The Garry Farm. All breeder stock.

I love Garry Farm! They were my first silkies. I had to rehome when we moved due to them fearing the enclosure. They were raised free-range and wouldn't leave the coop.

We're hopefully moving, so it'll be interesting to see how these guys adapt. I have 25 in my standard coop, 9 grown silkies in my silkie coop and 10 silkies varying in age in my brooder. Getting them transported is going to be a pain.

I've gotten plenty of eggs off of eBay with no real issues. Perhaps I've just been lucky.

I do try to buy from sellers close to me though, within a few states to save on shipping length (and I also try to be mindful of the weather and temperature)

I also unpack them and let them settle for a day or so before starting incubation.

I've had plenty of success with shipped eggs (though this is obviously not the case for everyone)

I'd love to join, I just set some geese this morning but I'm sure I'll be fairly far behind!
