What are air cells in eggs? I've heard people say to leave shipped eggs out for 24 hours before incubating because something about the air cells?

Update silkie pic... not the nice typey silkies... but I'm hoping for someone to help me out with that soon.

We kept one for now.
I am attaching the hatchling photo & the update. Is she a frizzle & being a silkie, does that make her a sizzle? (It's 1,3,2 order).

If you shine a light through an egg,you will see an air pocket at the large end of the egg. The egg shell is porous. As time passes the moisture in the egg will evaporate. This is a good way to check how fresh eggs are. The bigger the aircell the older the egg

What kind of light? i have tried several kids or maybe the setting is wrong. do you have to be in a dark room then shine the light through the egg?
