incubating and power outage(pictures added)

Just put 38 eggs in lockdown after 2 power outages. 1st one on day 3 for 19 hours, bator dropped to 70 something, I can't remember exact temp. Of course I wasn't here for that outage.

2nd outage was day 17, thankfully I was home for that one and moved the bator as close to the woodstove as I could get it without melting it. Popped a hot water bottle in and put blanket over the top. Stayed at 96 degrees until power came back on several hours later.
Crossed fingers and toes everyday. Never hatched in the winter because of power outages but couldn't help myself, couldn't let all of my beautiful Marans eggs and Welsummer eggs go to waste.
Don't give up!

BTW: A Welsummer egg that accidentally made it into the fridge for a couple of days is doing great!

My guess they will be fine, when hatching at school (back when we were allowed to do that) the plug to the incubator was pulled by the custodian on a Friday and it was plugged back in on Monday.

The eggs were still turned because the 8th graders had made a 'perpetual motion' egg turner that had to be reset every 4 days.
(has some weights and counter weights and was built like and over grown coo coo clock, but instead of a bird chiming the hours/days whatever the eggs would be turned on time. wish I had a picture - it was massive and in the way of the 'bater window and was noisy but ... still... really really cool... it connected to where a normal electric turner would on the old style 'bators that would take different sources for each.)

we had about a 60% hatch rate, the other rooms had about 80% as these eggs had been started (candled at 10 days) and set up by the 'farmer' -

the 'bator was not opened at all between f->m

Just an update on the power outage eggs. They are due to hatch Monday and out of the 22 eggs 15 made it to the hatcher.I had 6 that never started developing and 1 quitter.Another thing to consider is that these eggs traveled from Washington State to Georgia also.Let's hope with all of Nancy's prayers that they hatch well for me.They are dues Monday but I do not believe they will hatch till Tuesday with the outage .STORMY is hopefully coming soon!!

I know I heard my turner/bator running at 7:30am and later when I checked at 9:30 it was off and had gotten down to 73! I reset the plug and it started right back up....so hopefully it will all be fine!

James, still praying for those little ones!!!

Keep us posted....Please pray for my humpty dumpty hatch described in another thread....It's just started on Christmas day!

well if it makes you feel any better, my chicks were ACTIVELY hatching since last night and EARLY this am during it all the power went out for 9 hours. See my post (I think page 47 of the "Christmas Hatch: come on and join" thread and it tells the whole story and what I did. I even had one hatch DURING the outage and they all have hatched/are hatching still (3 died but that was myt fault letting them smother eachother during transport) so all is not lost! They went without heat from 330am to 10am! And it's CRAZY windy here today... so good luck and let me say- I will be better prepared for this type of thing in the future! SOOO stressful!

james, i have the same kind of story over 200 quail most maid it on the first loss of power thay are due to hatch on the 31, on the 25 the power went out (again)as we were leaving i lit a candle thinking the power will come on and the fan will blow the candle out got home 4hr later and no power, candle still burning, father in law had power, loaded it up ,got it pluged up at his house ,next day temp was up to 103 i thank the candle heat warped the wafer , i hope you have good luck on your hatch
