This is my first time ever incubating call ducks and I'm wondering if they're any different than mallards or rouens (which I have hatched before). I heard they were more difficult to hatch.
The 6 eggs spent their first 11 days under my broody mallard hen, but since her own clutch hatched I put the calls in an incubator. It's a large incubator with a fan on top and water must be added to the bottom every day. Since there is water already in the incubator should I mist the eggs? I have been, but I don't want it to get too humid.
I have been candling the eggs and they look great but I lost one today. I think it was because the egg was extremely small though.
When it comes time to hatch I heard calls aren't strong enough to pip through their shells. Is this true? Do I have to make an initial hole for them?
And is there anything else special I have to do for calls?
Thanks!
