I did a search for my question and could not find an answer. I searched for an hour+. How do you place your eggs in the bator. Point end up or round end up. I have an automatic egg turner. Does it make any difference? I have 14 black copper marans eggs and I don't want to make any mistakes. Last batch of 6 only one lived. One died in the shell and the rest did not develop. Thanks in advance.

Depends on what turner you use. Got one that tips over you can put the round end up but if you got one that slides side to side the eggs are supposed to lay down. I always let the eggs lay down sinse it´s the normal way they are supposed to be.

I'm so excited!!! I have a candler but don't dare take the eggs out. I seem to drop them. I am not very careful even when I try. Sigh....like a bull in a china closet.

Round end up, or if there is no turner- they lay flat and you hand turn them. If you had several eggs that did not develop at all, it was probably not an upside down egg, but an infertile egg, or egg damaged in ship (if you purchased shipped eggs). Upside down eggs in the turner will probably develop, at least part of the way, but will probably not hatch as the chick will no orient properly, and won't pip into the air cell (and hatch at the round end like they are supposed to). You also need to take them out of the turner 3-4 days before hatch date.

I dropped a duck egg yesterday while putting it into the hatcher. The little fella has pipped and looks like he will make it. Butterfingers may get lucky with this little duck. I'm naming it Diver if he lives because he took a 4 foot dive once already.
