Let me start at the top. This is our first time incubating, we were hoping one of our girls would go broody soon, but it wasn't happening so we decided to incubate. We are using a Harris Farms Nurture Right 360 and so far everything is going pretty perfect. I have been keeping a decent log of the room and incubator temps and humidity 3 times a day.

In addition to 10 of our girls' eggs that I am very certain of the dates, I bought a dozen from a local breeder as well. The dozen I got from here were half English blue orpington and half black ameraucana. She did tell me that a few of her girls were broody so they might be a day or so ahead of mine. Once I was ready to place the eggs in the incubator I candled them to see if there appeared to be any "over developing". I did mark a few of the eggs as maybe a bit more than fresh laid, but not by much.

It's day 5 of incubation so I decided to candle the eggs to check for duds. I think that one of my eggs is SIGNIFICANTLY further along than the others.

All of my girl's eggs seem to be right on the mark, except for one that may be a dud. But out of the 12 from her, 2 appear to be duds, 4 seem to be right on the money, 5 seem to be a day or two ahead of mine. But one really seems to be much further. At first I thought it was bad because it was so much darker than the others that I couldn't see any veining. My first though was a big blood ring. But just as I was about to set it down, I noticed it really moving around inside! :celebrate

from what I could see, it looked like somewhere between day 8 and day 10 in the image above.

So....... What am I supposed to do with an egg that is so much further ahead than the others? Ho do I know when to take out the automatic turner and go on lockdown? Heck, do I just keep the humidity set for the other eggs and hope that this on makes it?

I need some advice on which way to go at this point. Obviously, there are more eggs on track than the single egg farther along. However, I would really like to see if I can get this one through as well without compromising the other eggs. I was really hoping for some blue orpingtons and 2 already seem to be duds, so that brings me down to 4 remaining with one of them being the more advanced egg.

Help.......

What is the capacity of your bator, and how many eggs do you have in there now? What I would do: keep things going as they are until you THINK the precocious one is at day 14 of development. At that time, take all the eggs out of the turner, and lay them flat. If you have room, place the egg which is on the fast track in a little basket to keep him from dirtying the rest of the eggs and the bator when he hatches. Continue hand turning the eggs for 3 more days. You can then stop turning the faster developing one, and continue to hand turn the rest of the eggs.

Are you able to be around often to check on progress? If so, you could delay increasing humidity until you see the egg rocking or hear it chirping or tapping on the shell. At that time, increase the humidity for hatch. It won't hurt the other eggs at this time if they miss a day of turning.

Have your brooder set up. As soon as he's hatched and has dried a bit, you can lift him out of the bator and move him to the brooder. Hopefully, you will be using a MHP for a brooder.

Thank you. It holds 22 and there are 22 in there. 3 might be duds though, I'm giving them 2 more days before I chuck them though to be certain.

I work 4 days a week, 2 of them 12 hours they other 2 up to 9 hours. I had this set of eggsgoing to be due on my long weekend off so I would be here for that. I'm hoping that this one decides to at least hold off until I can be here.
We are indeed going to be using a MHP.

Humidity had been runnin between 51 to 55%. The room humidity has been running 41 to 49 %. Incubator temp has been consistently 99.5 and room temp 72 t0 77.

I haven't tracked air cells yet, I thought you started that at day 7, then again at day 14 and 18. I'm at day 5 right now.
