Incubating eggs to hatch about August 8th

It is harder to be strong when the incubator is sitting across the livingroom from you and you have to hand turn the eggs five times a day and of course, being a good mother hen, I have to check the temp like all the time....

I HAVE to handle them five times a day....super hard to resist the urge to candle!!!

I'm in the east; I get the dark even earlier than you!!!

The last few of any length of time seem like forever...weeks of pregnancy, days of incubation, hours waiting to candle.........

I am disappointed in my silkies. Out of 17, 13 were clear. I believe they said they have a new roo in the pen so he will like to know his ratio. Pulled 4 out of 8 buttercups, 3 out of 16 Spanish, 3 out of 18 Pheonix and only one of the backyard banties as they were too dark for me to get a good

I still have a 11 to candle Monday or Tuesday. Who am I kidding - Monday.

Can't wait for your report Calichick!

@MeepBeep are your good peacock eggs still good? And the Guinea eggs? (And you have chicken eggs too!)

The big batch of peafowl eggs I got in the mail were mostly a bust, they must have had a real bad trip through the postal service or were old/infertile to start with... Out of those 31 pea eggs, 8 started to go, but 6 of those blood ringed the first week (to be expected if they were old or had a rough trip) leaving me with only 2 that are still viable out of that lot... In contrast 7 of the 8 guinea fowl eggs I set the same day that were also mailed to me are thriving... I don't have a count on chicken eggs off the top of my head, been dropping a few in the incubator every few days from my new hens that just started to lay, they are smaller than normal newbie eggs and even a few double yolks, I don't expect much since they are newbie hens but what the heck... I also have been dropping more local peafowl and a few guinea eggs every week, most of the pea are thriving... The local guinea eggs are freebies as few are fertile as their male appears to have lost interest this year, don't expect much or if any to hatch just tossing them in there for the heck of it... Going to candle and cull the whole incubator this weekend and see what is left...

On anther note, I have a pea hatching right now (broke into the aircell waiting for the pip) and I'm going to set 4 more peafowl, 6 more guinea and 4 more chicken eggs tonight...

I also hatched 3 peas and 1 guinea at the start this week...

BTW if anyone has no rhyme or rhythm to their hatching dates like I do I highly recommend the 'Hatchabatch' app for android and ios... It's a no bells and whistles hatching tracker app that lets out track multiple hatches all in one place and syncs with your phone calender, honestly I wish it had a few more bells or tweaks but it gets the job done as is... And to be upfront the app is put out by a poultry supply company that I have zero affiliation with, but that app is far from intrusive and isn't spamware that tosses up ads or anything like that... I just links back to their site if you want additional info... It also has a built in candling guide, and multiple checklist for each stage...

Yeah! And happiness!

Except for @MeepBeep with that one set of shipped pea eggs. Blach!

Luckily everyone sounds like they are doing well...

Gotta say though, I was also bummed that @Puddin Fluff lost half of the buttercup eggs..those are so cute!

I have eggs on Monday that need to be candled but this batch I probably won't do again until right before lock down.

My tablet ate part of my earlier response apparently, I ment to say that I was sad about the buttercups only being 50% but more bummed that the silkies were so off. Those are the ones my daughter has wanted and we have had the worst luck with them. Luckily, the shipped eggs that need candling Monday have 5 silkies.

I hope their journey was a smooth one and that I get development.
