Incubating for first time?

I am skeptical because someone ripped me off with my first ducks. Said they were pure Rouens, and the parents were mixed breeds.

But! I found the CUTEST little ducklings ever, and I'm getting 8 of them. They're purebred Silver Appleyard and Welsh Harlequin. Picking them up on Sunday!

Although, @chickens really do you know what the differences are between Silver Appleyard and Welsh Harlequin ducklings?
What I was told about the Welsh Ducklings is that you can sex them before they are a few days old. Dark bills are Drakes, lighter bills are Hens...Welshes are a larger breed than Appleyards. The colour is pretty much the same...Did they tell you a way to tell the difference? I only have been around Buff, Welsh and Call ducks.
Very cute Ducklings...Congrats on the find....

Um, Appleyards are much bigger than Welshes. Appleyards are 7-9 pounds when mature. These aren't the bantam breeds.

See, I really can't help you their. I only kept this Welsh Drake duckling because he was and still is imprinted on me. I will breed him with my Buff hen. All I know is what I have been told...No hands on experience with Appleyards.
My true interest is in the Call ducks. Getting two Black on Saturday. Cute two week old Ducklings.

Wish you great luck with your Ducks...

And yes, you were partially right because there's a Bantam Silver Appleyard.

I would get Calls if they could be found in northern Alberta! :lau

My connection gets his from Hinton but he is a hoarder of Calls and wont tell the number....Ill work it out of him. So far he has sold me a Mallard Call, White Hen. Two blacks and possibly two White and blacks? Wont hold my breath though. All very small cute Ducks.

I enjoy helping you as much as I can...

I can't imagine how tiny call ducklings must be!
Even my silver appleyards and welsh harlequin ducklings fit in one hand...
If I ever got calls I'd build them a mini mansion :p
