Incubating guinea eggs.Sigh.

BOY AM I HAVING TROUBLE THIS GUINEA HATCH
sad.png
Last year hatched out 2 batches with a good hatch rate...first time almost 100%. The first hatch this season was ok, but many infertile eggs...alot of pullet eggs. This hatch went into lock down Wed. & 7 hatched just find, but the others made the pip hole then nothing. membrane began to dry out, so I finally got warm water and dunked them careful into it,then chipped away some shell a little at a time......I had 36 eggs and about half have done nothing. When I candled there was a chick inside. This is so frustrating

I find guineas are easier than chickens to hatch. My husband says they pop out like popcorn. lol When they start hatching they all hatch so fast and run around like crazy as soon as they get their legs under them. I hope you hatch is better this time, I will be putting some in the incubator soon too.

YES, USUALLY THEY DO POP LIKE CORN, BUT NOT THIS TIME

I have had to remove half from their shell! The ones I did remove from shell are doing good and I can not tell them apart from the others, thank goodness! ASlways before they made the pip hole and just kept pushing them selves out...not this time!

The easiest things for ME to hatch have been ducks. I think I can just look at a duck egg and it will hatch, lol.
I have these guinea eggs in with my banty eggs right now. Keeping a close eye on the temps and humidity.

Hey Mags!! Yeah guinea eggs don't need that much humidity....IMO, but of course everyone recommends their own way. I use the dry method and have successful hatch rates for any type of egg. (even duck eggs) What day are they on??

Hi Mary!

The guinea eggs I have in there currently are due around July 16th if they go the whole 28 days. The person I got them from said hers have been hatching out earlier? They are in with the banty eggs I got from you, OEGB eggs and d'uccle eggs.(56!) The chicken eggs are all due around the same time, the 4th.
It was the guineas that hatched from that first batch of guinea eggs I got from you that are the goat riders, lol. My aunt gets quite a kick out of them.

Everyone says how easy guinea eggs are to incubate so hopefully I am on the right track now.
grammy of David, I am not sure what would cause the thick shell? Hopefully someone else on here can give you an answer. I have seen thick shells on some of the different eggs I have incubated but dont know why that happens.

With mine that's too low humidity during hatching. My last hatch was so disorganized one hatched on a soaking wet paper towel - they all hatched.
