Incubating Lavender Ameraucanas Dry Hatch or No?

Pics
I bet I know why all the death rings...it’s cold in the room where the bator is and we’ve candles several times. I must leave them alone!! It was so fun to look because they were developing so nicely. Last time I never had a ring and the room was maintained at 74 degrees. Lesson learned!!

I can’t wait to see what happens with your hatch! It is always a surprise!!
I’m starting to wonder if Eloise is a Roo! What do you think? Only one day older than Charlotte🧐🤨 The bigger one on the pic and the one in the back on the table.

Too early to tell, usually need to be 10 weeks. How old are they now? Also roos will have a triple row pea comb when they start to develop. Ameruacanas are slow to develop. Look up pea combs on the forum and you should be able to find photos of cockerel vs pullet differences in appearance of this comb type. Saddle feathers will usually develop even later. Easy to change her name though to Louis!
Good luck!:love

Hi Guys! Just wanting advice... my little Charlotte LA isn’t feeling so hot I can tell and she looks thin and feels a little weak. Her crop never appears or feels full but, I see her eating. I feed her Scratch and Peck organic starter. No loose stools. What could be going on? Should I be giving them more than the starter? it had grit in it but, maybe not enough? She is still in my house in her brooder and not too hot for her. One worried mom😕

You can try giving her some nutra drench, you can give it to her concentrated if you have it. It’s mostly molasses and full of vitamins as well. It’s a specially designed for poultry. It’s good to have on hand. You can also try feeding her some egg yolk mixed with a little bit of water as well.
if there is any sign of blood in her stool she could have coccidiosis if she was not vaccinated for this or if you are not feeding medicated feed. This can be treated With Corid.
I would also post your concerns on the thread that deals with the health of young chicks or care of chicks you might get more experienced folks to respond that way.
good luck and let us know how she is doing!🥰

Thought I would share an update! Apparently my temps ran hot, because everyone started hatching 1.5 days early! So far I have 8 of 10 Ameraucanas hatched. No signs of pips on the last two yet, and unfortunately I *think* from the shorthand, that one was actually a Lavender he slipped in so I am super bummed it's doing NOTHING!!

I would be interested to know if Paul personally has better hatch rates with this Black/Black Splits than lavender; my guess would be yes.

Thank you! I will do that! Poor baby! Do you always medicate and vaccinate jmns?

Yes. I vaccinate my own chicks for Mareks disease, which can be a fatal neurological disease, caused by a virus that can take out a whole flock. It can be spread by wild birds and we have plenty of those including the wild chickens that run around here!
I am not able to get a hold of the coccidiosis vaccine but if you buy chicks from a hatchery this is usually an option. I just got some hatchery chicks and I had them vaccinated for both things.
I also give medicated feed to prevent coccidiosis If they are not vaccinated until they are about six weeks old sometimes longer. I know there’s a lot of debate about this and I don’t care to get into that but I do work in the medical field and I’m a big believer in prevention!😊
I hope Charlotte gets better soon!❤️

8 out of 10 is amazing odds compared to what I have become accustomed to! 😜 Congrats! Bummer is right about your LA😕 One of my Paul ones is oozing☹️ due tomorrow... don’t have my hopes up. I bet you are right about his hatch rate. Pics of your newbies?
