Incubating Lavender Ameraucanas Dry Hatch or No?

Try cracking the eggs open to see if anything developed, then let us know back on here how that went
This batch was back in March and USPS lost them for awhile then also, I had humidity too high. Some were developed though to about day 10-12 I believe.

We candled all the eggs last night. We have had quite a few rings of death. I need to look this up and see what causes it. We are down to 1 of 6 lavs at this point due to a couple underutilized & 3 death rings ☹. No lav Orpington, or Isbar for the same reason. The olive riggers are hard to candle, but the is one very strong that moves all around & some that I’m not sure of. The Mayans look unfertilized except for 1. It does look like we will get something this time at least!
Yeah I am so curious and want to understand more. I have no idea if any of my LA eggs are any good right now but, fri is hatch day. My four duck eggs are due sat. Magpie and some runners I guess. I can’t wait to meet them🥰 I hope you get a Maran for sure! One of my little Chochins has an extra toe on each foot, so weird🤪

Your cochin probably has some silkie blood. Silkies have 5 toes!
Good luck on Friday! Fingers crossed!:):fl

I bet I know why all the death rings...it’s cold in the room where the bator is and we’ve candles several times. I must leave them alone!! It was so fun to look because they were developing so nicely. Last time I never had a ring and the room was maintained at 74 degrees. Lesson learned!!

I can’t wait to see what happens with your hatch! It is always a surprise!!

I hate to jinx myself by posting here, but :frow I purchased eggs from Paul Smith for his Black/Black Split Lav pen. I ordered 12 eggs, received 15, had 3 clears. I have 10 of 12 fertile eggs going into lockdown to hatch this Thursday. All of this said, I am still not counting my chickens before they hatch.

These babies will not be lavender, BUT they can still get you Lavender within a breeding season. The chicks I hatch will all be black in color, but 50% will carry the lavender gene. Thus these split lavender babies can be bred together to create Lavender babies. You have to test breed the black chicks to determine who is split. Since black birds are hardier overall than the Lavenders from what I understand maybe this is a good option for some. I would also say it is important to consider blacks in any Lavender breeding program for improving your Lavender flock overall.

Hoping you all get your Lavender Ameraucanas soon. Paul emailed me to ask how I handled my eggs so he could pass that on to another customer, so hi "other customer" if you are here! :D

Yes I have read to breed up with black. So much for me to learn still. Thank you for your comments! Your hatch day is the day before my Paul La eggs! Let us know how yours goes and would love to know how you did it as well. 💜🖤

This is my favorite thread for shipped egg info. I use this as a general guide.

With these specifically, I let them rest 12hrs on counter, placed in egg carton air cell end up in bator with no turning for 3 days, then push to side to hand "turn" several times day inside carton, dry incubation (I don't add water til lockdown regardless of what it says). I think the biggest difference for me versus what has been posted in this thread is just humidity during the incubation period. Though I live in a dry, desert-like climate, I found early on a dry hatch worked way better for me. By day 5 my air cells stopped rolling and looked perfect, fertile eggs were easily identified and they went in the auto turner on their sides. This is a brand new incubator I have never used before, so I am counting myself lucky to get so many to this point, and I am REALLY hoping to get lots of fluffy cheeks by Friday. I will post my results and fingers crossed for your hatch Friday!

It’s been quite the learning curve but, that’s what learning is.... learning. I can’t wait to hear about your hatch and hope it is very successful! Thank you!
