Incubating peafowl

I lost my last pea egg last night. It had made no changes after giving it to my broody. I should of giving her the egg much sooner. this is my second year trying for peachicks and if there is anyone wlling to ship me some eggs I love to try once more this year. Please just send me a message. I have 6 broody hend sitting now so the sooner the better.:fl:barnie

This is the one that had pipped and not changed for about 12 hours, then I picked it up and talked to it (the egg was under a Silkie hen) and it peeped at me. Yes, I was worried it may not hatch out but I knew helping it out may not be a good idea since I have messed up many a chick or duckling by helping so I placed it back under the hen and went to do a few chores. Came back in 15 minutes and saw it was out of the shell.

Now here are all 3 that hatched last weekend under the Silkie hens. My 3 little Peas!

And on another exciting note, my friends that took 19 of my peafowl eggs and set them in their new fancy schmancy bator have 3 hatched out this morning and another one pipping!!

There were only 13 that grew so we hope more will hatch in their bator. However, I still have about 12 eggs under hens here due anywhere from next week to the first of August.

Mine didn't make it. I have two more hens that just started sitting so hopefully I can get some eggs somewhere. If not It will be year THREE until I can try again. If anyone is willing to sell and ship please let me know.

Well, of the eggs that I took to my friend's house with their really nice new cabinet incubator, only 5 chicks hatched out. Some of the eggs were almost 2 weeks old but I wanted to try, just in case. Probably was the fresh ones that hatched, I know 6 had to be tossed early due to being clear and one went bad.
Of the 5 pea chicks that hatched I think I am going to have to put one down due to feet curled all the way back but will see this afternoon when I pick them up. One or two have curled toes and they put slippers on them (they are the best of people!).

So from my experience, I like my hens to hatch but I am not discounting that plenty of folks get great hatches in a bator with pea eggs. We just haven't found the correct "click" yet to make it happen.
I hope to get more eggs to try as my hens are full up with pea eggs for now.

I picked up my 5 pea chicks from my friend's house. Out of 19 eggs I was still happy to get the 5 babies. I may wind up losing one as it's abdomen is very soft, it's little belly button is scabbed over and it's legs are more messed up than the others. We have the toes and legs taped but I am not sure how they will turn out.

Excited to see what else hatches under my hens now. I have not set any more pea eggs in the bator. If I get a lot more eggs then I may let them try again, otherwise we may try next year and try to see if we can perfect it.

mine didn't make it either....I ordered more and studied up...I put the peafowl in the incubator with the duck eggs...seems they need temps and humidity similar to water fowl!! wish me luck

had a tragedy here this week...I was working so my husband was babysitting my chicks and ducks....they WERE in the shade....well I won't say anything more....you get the message!! he's sick...he's never been responsible for a death before!!! needless to say I was heartbroken!

last night I was candling my peafowl....it was day 7....I don't see any veins or anything in any of them....but I was checking eggs in the other incubators and noticed one I had put in on June 22 it was over looked...1 I took out of the coop cause no one was sitting on it but it's been hot and humid so the little thing had started developing....I picked the egg up to candle since it had been forgotten and it chirped....I put it back fast...started the little delivery room incubator....just that fast it pipped!! in the middle of the night I put it in the delivery room and by 4 30 this morning watched it pop it's top and plop out!!! sweet little yellow baby!! I have a hen with 3 3day olds so after it's less wobbly and dry I'll take it to her!!
