Incubating troubles

I have been thinking about installing a computer fan in my LG to see if that will help with my next hatch. Has anybody tried this? Did it work for you? Or would I just be better off investing in an new incubator with a fan already in it?

i tried to turn my still air into fan forced by buying the fan kit for it big mistake you have to make it convert into the power cord i tried and it didnt work i sent it back and got a refund and used that to buy a fan bator and another turner

I did put a fan in my still air and it really improved the variations in temp and humidity a lot. I am able to get 99.5 for temp at all times now and humidity from 35 to 45 %. Right now it's at 39 but I don't want to make changes unless it goes below 35 since Saturday is lockdown.

Thanks for posting

I have been reading my brains out and just put 8 eggs in the bator and everything I have read says 50%-70% humidity for the first 18 days...*sigh*

I just went and dropped my humidity from 60% down to 45% *I hope that was right*

First, read Bill Worrell's titled, Dry Incubation Method. Also, click here to read another good article, taking note of how the author raises the humidity in stages on days 18 through 20 instead of all at once.

Next, get an Egg-o-Meter because it's more important to go by the egg's temperature than the air temperature. You will also need a good hygrometer. If you get a digital type, be sure to calibrate it. I personally used a wet bulb/dry bulb type hygrometer with my LG.

My LG didn't have a turner or fan, but having a good thermometer, water weasel**, hygrometer and using the Dry Incubation Method, I had good hatches anyway.
**The Egg-o-Meter uses the same principal as the water weasel + digital thermometer.

WoW good info you guys:) I too, did tons of research before trying to hatch my first batch and thought I was informed( I even printed out the LG info for my model since I bought it at a garage sale and it didn't come with any) Turns out I wished I would have joined BYC a long time ago. Thanks

I have the LG StilAir and haven't made any adjustments to it. I'm getting better than 50% hatches as long as the eggs are fertile.
I'm helping a friend restock her RIR's at the moment and all the fertile eggs have hatched and chicks doing great.
I do have some Japanese Sultans that I've succeeded in getting 50% of all the fertiles to hatch.
Just keep working at it and you'll start getting a better hatch rate.
