I have 2 sets of eggs incubating right now, first time ever. (I am not personally incubating them, but having an experienced breeder do it for me. I am buying my own incubator today. I was just too worried about the breeds I chose and losing money if i screwed up my first go at it. I have Cemanis and Silver Laced Orpington eggs in her incubator. I will be getting 1 dozen Legbars to start in mine tomorrow! Soo excited!!!
You're going to want to get the new 'bator up & stabilized before you put eggs in it. You'll also want to be sure your thermometers & hygrometers are registering correctly by calibrating them. These and other need / good -to-know topics are covered in the first couple of posts in this thread

, I have been watching the duckling hatching cam all morning while catching up and drinking coffee. It's mesmerizing, can't stop watching. Goodwin, who's in the brooder in the mudroom (but with the door open) can hear the ducklings, and keeps making these sounds of encouragement - he's totally focused. I'd say maybe that'l  make him a good daddy, but honestly, I think he's just a little lonely while he heals...:D

DUCKBURDS WITH WIDDLE WEBZIES!!!!!!!

(ahem)

Where did that come from - did I say that? Uh, oh. Ducks and baby goats are starting to melt my brain, toooooooooo.......

Daw!! :love
Yes!! You are now converted!! :yesss:

uh oh! time to exorcise the webz from your brain

the 1st story, SUPER SCARY!! I can't imagine. I used to walk to school everyday, but its a tiny town so not quite as scary as some of the others. I cant imagine what i put my parents through, i was never home and always out in my car all over the place. (knock on wood) i have never been in an accident, only stuck in the snow a couple times-because i didnt have reverse :)

2nd is wicked funny -sorry, surely a panic attack at first but after...

Yayyyy!!

NOOO webz is good!
Another little duck is out on duck cam! Just now!!!!

:ya
There is a lady that live there and also has a house down the road from me that i am going to try to buy from her

Cute!

someone need to get the webz out of yer brain

Keep the webs in her brain!!

I'm trying to cheerlead the last little one - s/he's almost there. The duckling int eh incubator keeps egging it on.

I think it'll be out in a minute or two (hard to know, but zipping looks near complete and it's pushing, poor fella...)

Edit: The duckling rolled the egg clear across the 'bator. I hope the little one can still get out...

:fl

Bator must be running cool as this guy is very late. Was afraid it would not hatch. It has been so long since I hatched a pea egg. So excited!!

It is a special surprise for DD who is on her way back from college in UK.
Hopefully she won't already be too overloaded with animal stuff from college and will still be excited!!

Here's what I've been up to..... besides reading this thread as often as I can trying to keep up with the rest of you....

Some really itty bitty Serama chicks. This little one is only two days younger than the larger ones which are only 20 grams. Littlest one is 11 grams...

Call ducklings popping out all over the place.....

Another call duck hid a nest in some prickly stuff. I think they are hatching today......

Some new porcelain d'Uccles from New Mexico to replenish Tobin's demolished flock. We hatched 6 from eggs related to his lost birds and bought these extremely good quality youngsters to add to them. So my son has his own bloodlines back in addition to these very nice bloodlines. He'll be back in business soon!

Also very busy with horse work and work on the Hubbell buildings. I will get pictures next week of the buildings.

I am certain you were terrified both times with those calls!! Good God, not one I ever want!

My son didnt call, he came to tell me AFTER he got out of the hospital! Talyn Wrecked his crotchrocket when he was 22 and he was a mess of blood and road rash, still has scars all over his legs side and back, but thank God he had thick leather on and helment, he was lucky, he never got on a bike again that I am aware of. Two weeks later his friend hit a tree and died on his. sucks the kids still kept in touch from HS soccer buds even though in college, such a devastating event for everyone. 22 and carrying your friends casket to his grave is an eye opener in itself. I will have to mention here the next one Dustyn Bought one last year and I am not happy about that at all. But what can I do.

Dangit - lost all my quotes.

I can't remember... ummmm...

@Sally Sunshine I want some of your project eggs, too!
And I'm SOOOOOO jealous about the goats - those are the ones I want as well. Agree with @ChickenCanoe - I have to wait until I have the facilities for them (and the time to care for them). Have you seen the website "Weed 'em and Reap?" Very funny, and has some amusing things about goats and goat keeping. (She keeps the mini Nigerians, or did). I thought to direct you there because she talks about the slightly different milking stand/situation with such a small little goat - it was interesting.

My favorite part, under backyard farming, is the "funny stuff" section - don't miss "Goat Glamour Shots: The New Selfie"

http://www.weedemandreap.com/category/backyard-farming/funny-stuff/

Fire and others, I can't seem to get a day off for rain much either. It's been raining like crazy here in Texas and it JUST WON'T STOP!!!!
barnie.gif

I can't recall who posted it, but that was such a sad story about the little boy hit by the car.

@BantyChooks , @ChickenCanoe - I've tried to be really good about the chickens having lots of space, between 10-20 sq ft per bird in each coop, even though they range outside all day also. (The 15 week olds have 6-7 sq ft per bird indoors, with ranging, but they are in a growout tractor coop and will be moved soon.) It's easier when you're building for yourself rather than trying to have them fit into an existing structure you've bought (that's why the tiny Coop of Sadness had to go). But the EHAL cohort of babies do NOT have enough space right now. They have been growing so fast it has blown my mind, and I've been either unwell or swamped figuratively, or swamped literally (meaning rained out) - I must admit that I'm certain that's why Goodwin got pecked. I'm moving the boys into their separate growout tractor this weekend (working on it as soon as I can get my back to unkink). I've started on their large permanent coop foundation, but lots to do...

@jwlpoultry I've noticed it's slow on weekend days - I suspect because everyone's often out getting chores done. Often I am doing the same thing...

Well, after letting the chickens out I went back to bed to try to get catch up on some sleep after this past week - good to catch up on sleep, but I always end up feeling so unbelievably stiff and my back seizes up. I'm going to go take some pain killers - I've got a lot of work to do! (If I can stand to leave when waiting for those last two duck eggs to zip!!!!)

- Ant Farm
I always loose my quotes and my thoughts, it makes things alot easier lately lol
I want to see these ducklins!!

No progress on the last two duck eggs that are pipped. The hatcher person is checking on them - both still alive and seem ok. It's good it's via webcam - I find myself having those same "urge to help" feelings that need to be suppressed...
jumpy.gif

Edit to add: It's so hot and humid - trying to work on the growout pen, but had to flee inside for a little while...
fl.gif

Quote: Did I mention I have no issues with wafer thermostats..... just sayin lol

Pictures soon! Just got 3 more black ones out of the hatcher- man it's just so humid in there - this heat wave
sad.png
I figured opening it maybe the remaining 15? Eggs won't drown. Still just 4 brown but 2 light ones and the rest I lost count of are blue and black still. This year I've only had to do anything for 3-4 of the well over 30 hatchlings in the last few weeks so I'm pleased but that the humidity is spinning in the other bator on day 3!! Is 40 bad bad now I can't seem to get it to stay down any lower right now it's just too muggy. I keep thinking when they fluff I will sex and photograph
smile.png
but then there's more and I get busy hopefully I will get a good look at my favorites soon. Husband man said don't forget to sex them!! Cause I failed last week lol. Hopefully no one got a rooster i offered to put any in the meat pen but I feel bad if they do, we like to let them grow mostly before selling since people here usually like that but man I'm having trouble not being all mine mine mine mine lol
