I would like to know the reason it works. Can you ID this fly? I think it bites. I live in California. I have looked on google but can't find anything.

How big was it? Fruit fly?

No it's bigger than a fruit fly but half the size of a regular house fly.

Looks like a chicken. Do you have a short list of breeds it could possibly be or is it possible it is a cross breed?

It's definitely a chicken.
I had eggs from EEs, White Plymouths, Australorps, Golden Lakenvelder, Dominique, and assorted Naked Necks.
My guess is that it is a cross of something, I'm just not sure what.
