When I cannot find a chick's beak, I wet my finger, and begin gently rubbing in small circles. Very gently. Often, the membrane will slowly come off. It is important to be gentle and slow in case you see a prick of blood. That means you need to stop for a while again.
I wish I were there, because I know what I am looking for when I am doing an assist. Fortunately, I got a lot of experience last month! They were not my first assists, but there sure where a lot! LOL
