Hi jessimom hard to tell from the pics at least on the iPad. They do molt several times on their way to adults. Do you see the mites?
I may go out now that it's dark and see if I can see any creepy crawly stuff....this looks like bugs to me, not a normal molt
@Jessimom , you should be able to see evidence mites or lice if that's what they have. Maybe @ronott1 can advise?

-Kathy
I'll check tonight, but will check again in the morning to see if I can see more evidence.

mites can be hard to see because they hide in the coop until night.

A sure sign of mites is blood on the eggs in a pullet or hen that has been laying for a while.

My advice would be to get elektor or generic spinosad and treat them all. The coops should be cleaned and sprayed with spinosad at but killing strength once a month until all symptoms are gone. Also, treat the chickens three times 7 days apart.

Then use permectrin the next time they show symptoms.
These are all 6 week to 12 week old babies. They are still upstairs in the coop. I've been grabbing the older ones and dropping them into the lower pen that does have access to dirt. I will move all these babies down into the lower pen after I treat them. I'll get them all outside.
Mine get ugly and coop looks like a broken feather bed. Well not that bad but almost. You should see bugs. Try magnifying a spot and see. Usually can see without. Do they have access to dirt for dust bath. Also if you have access to oak ash to put in dust bath that will help if it is mites.
Their coop is a bit nasty right now. I was supposed to clean it this week, but it's been so busy and way too hot, I fell behind. I'll box up these babies, treat them, clean their coop and treat that.

Thank you again everyone!!!

I still want to ask...this building has 4 pens. This is in the top left pen, no signs of damage in the bottom left, top right or bottom right. The bottom pens can go outside, the tops can not. Should I treat ALL 4 pens? Or do I just treat the pen that has these mites. For the bottom left, I dropped one of the mite bitten chicks in there. Will that spread the mites or do they just stay in the coop and only jump on the chicks to feed?

Thanks!! When I googled mites I came up with treating it with garlic and making a spray with cooking oil, and cinnamon and other stuff. The 'remedies" made me feel like I was trying to ward off vampires!!!

It's a Taylor, and it's pretty darn accurate as long as it's level, like on the counter.

is this it
400

yes!

Runt, didn't I just tell you this morning how I saved a very old hen that had a horrible case of cocci? She had blood like crazy in her poop and at her age, she could have died. I caught it within 24 hours, got her on Corid and 3 days later, she was nearly healed. By day 5, she was chasing, growling and terrorizing every bird in the flock! You won't kill your chicks!
are u an expert

No she isn't, if you want an expert opinion you should an Avian specialist veterinarian, I don't think thst you will find him in this thread, just keep in mind that as long as you wait more of your chicks will die!

CC are you familiar with this breed? The Orust? It is wonderful one! See the color of its shanks! I WOULD love for a couple of them!
Does anyone on here have any of these? The chicks are $99 each at Greenfire.... I found 2 people selling the eggs on ebay, saying they got their stock from Greenfire, but their photos show their roos looking almost fully black. No pictures of the hens.
You fell in love, aren't you?

@ChickenCanoe , I'm in the process of modifying my excel spreadsheet, so when finished I will forward a copy to you with a few basic notes. -Kathy
:thumbsup Thanks.
It's pretty cool... DH made it, and it has a really cool feature where it will line up all the weights to day zero, so you can have data on chicks hatched throughout the year, but line them all up to day zero. Like this: -Kathy
Some remarks if I may The Abscissa and the Ordinate are name less, you should write the name of your coordinates, the the scale of the data is not equal on the Abscissa, = in between 2 point could pass a different number of days, even if the distance between them is equal, date is an inconsistent variable so you cant( according to mathematical rules ) use a consistent graph=line, you should use bars. And it lake a title !
I know it's not perfect, and I really did it just so I could track the weight of my peachicks. I will tell DH about your suggestions and see what he can do, 'cause he's the brain around here, lol. -Kathy
Sorry Kathy I made a mistake about the scale it is always 7 days, I take it back

Thanks everyone for the responses about how to keep my flock cool in the summer! I haven't any since I took in all the suggestions.

But....

Now my eggs shells aren't that hard. My birds won't eat the oyster shells either. What else can I do to keep their shells hard?
