A farmer had 5 female pigs. Times were hard, so he decided to take them to the county fair and sell them.
At the fair, he met another farmer who owned five male pigs.

After talking a bit, they decided to mate the pigs and split everything 50/50.

The farmers lived 60 miles apart, so they decided to drive 30 miles each and find a field in which to let the pigs mate.

The first morning, the farmer with the female pigs got up at 5 A.M., loaded the pigs into the family station wagon , (which was the only vehicle he had) and drove the thirty miles.

While the pigs were mating, he asked the other farmer,
"How will I know if they are pregnant?"

The other farmer replied, "If they're lying in the grass tomorrow morning, they're pregnant. If they're lying in the mud, they're not."

The next morning the pigs were rolling in the mud, so he hosed them off, loaded them into the family station wagon again and proceeded to try again.

This continued each morning for more than a week and both farmers were worn out.

The next morning he was too tired to get out of bed. He called his wife, "Honey, please look outside and tell me whether the pigs are in the mud or in the grass."

"Neither," yelled his wife, "they're in the station wagon.

And one of them is honking the horn."

Took my two littles outside for the first time today, they were very unsure and stayed so close I could hardly step back to take a picture.

They will be two weeks old tomorrow.

Awwww

For anyone that's interested, here is the chart I use to track the weights of chicks:

In it are four charts

This one just charts their weight from the day they hatch

This lines up to day zero for all chicks and plots their gains and losses from day zero

This shows the losses and gains for the first ten days

This calculates the four medications shown based on the most current weight of a chick

Good night!

Alright, pics of the one I helped hatch (Sally Ann):

Whoa, I just realized I need to trim my fingernails!
ep.gif

Anywho, there she is!

Two more hatched for a total of 4 out of 10.
hmm.png
I float tested the other six, and apparently they're all still viable. I didn't see or hear any signs of life when I candled, though. Still hopeful ....

Here's the other two:

This one took a few hours to zip, but I wasn't in the room for a while so I didn't notice. It got out by itself, nonetheless. Would you believe that its dad was an EE and its mom was a very light-colored RSL? It looks like a pure EE!

This is an RIR/EE. She's really tiny and feisty.

Does anyone have ideas for names for these last two?
They are all in the brooder now. Since I had to open the bator anyways, I took them out. (Don't worry they had time to dry in the bator first!)

I want to thank everyone who gave me advice and encouraged and cheered me and the chicks on during this hatch.
The ones I remember are:
@Chaos18
@BantyChooks
@Sally Sunshine
@daxigait
@MotorcycleChick
@BusyBearMama
@Akrnaf2
@Jessimom
@DwayneNLiz
and anyone else that I can't think of right now since I'm tired,
THANK YOU!

The Vietnam War Memorial wall was in Marquette so we went to see our this evening.....i lost it.....too many names on that wall
:hugs I saw the wall in DC. It seems like such a simple memorial, but I was struck dumb. It was more powerful than WWII or the Korean which haunting in its own right.

Yup...

Then again she'll probably have a more unpleasant end via raccoon or fox now... Which will then give them ideas about hanging around the rest of the chickens. :barnie

Sounds like you need a long pole with a net on it. And a ladder my friend got some your welcome to use but no clue what they charge me to ship it over night.(eye roll)

Thanks! Daisy is a great name! I'll name the little one that.
I have no idea when I'm setting again! It's been lots of fun but at the same time stressful since there's so many things to worry about! I guess whenever I "need" more animals. (That is, whenever the feed bill and space permit!)

Male or a female?
Good day! It is a heifer.

Good for you! :thumbsup

You lack some protein! With your goats and cows I see a lot of this!

I am only eating 1,000 calories a day right now to take off the twenty five pounds I gained with my ankle injury and a few from winter. Some things have too many calories. I had three eggs for dinner last night and some cantaloupe. I wish my metabolism worked better, but that is what it takes for me go loose. I can giain weight at 1800 calories. I have a friend that has the opposite problem and the doctor recommended 5,000 calories a day to him. I wish we both could split and settle for 3,000. That would be wonderful, but it is never going to happen. :confused:

Try to minimize the carbs and replace it with protein and FAT yes FAT, and see how you loos pounds and improve your
Physiological measures!

I read on the weather channel that you were supposed to have a cooler summer. :fl

We're near 100 for the next 3 days then back to normal. I'm really looking forward to being able to kill the AC for a couple days.

I just lernd an amazing fact!

Domestic cats kills 3.5 BILLIONS, yes BILLIONS! Birds every year in the US alone! Unbelievable!

Found this in the net
http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/01/29/cats-wild-birds-mammals-study/1873871/

I've been aware of the problem for a few years. House cats belong in houses - not barns.
Cats are responsible for more extinctions than any other human related cause - especially on islands.
Cats have caused 14% of the bird, mammal and reptile extinctions in modern times.
Cats may kill mice but that's the tip of the iceberg of native fauna they kill.
They are an invasive species everywhere they have been introduced and are a threat not to just songbirds but all wildlife - reptiles, amphibians and other mammals.
There have been a few studies in the UK where outdoor and feral cats are a major problem.
They got all residents of communities to document all the animals their cats brought home. Extrapolated across the nation they show that cats are responsible for billions of bird deaths in the UK alone. Another study in the US that put cameras on outdoor cats showed that they only brought home about 1/3 of all the animals they killed. So estimates of the predation on native wildlife had been underestimated.
Approximately 2.5 billion birds and 13 billion mammals in the US are killed by cats. The overwhelming majority of those are native species. Some of those are threatened with extinction. Cats don't discriminate.
1 in 3 North American bird species are in decline - thanks to cats.

If anyone appreciates native wildlife, keep your cats indoors.
I'm on my soapbox now. For those that have barn cats, you're part of the problem. Keep in mind that native snakes are more effective mousers than invasive cats.

Trap, neuter, return practices don't solve but exacerbate the problem.

Since most cat owners don't want to believe their pets are the cause of wildlife devastation, probably the best way to control the problem is to convince them that letting their cats roam, endangers the cats - which it does.
http://conservationmagazine.org/2015/07/pet-owners-wont-admit-their-cats-harm-wildlife/

Not only are they a threat to prey animals, they are also a threat to native predators. They kill the rodents that native foxes, bobcats, owls, hawks and other predators need for sustenance.

Cause I would think that after sitting on my counter for a week that being cold for so long would kill them, but all 8 appear to be alive. Also did the same with some Muscovy eggs, and it looks like half of those are alive.

 A cooldown in the first week of incubation isn't a death sentence.

I am only eating 1,000 calories a day right now to take off the twenty five pounds I gained with my ankle injury and a few from winter. Some things have too many calories. As your ankle heals more, you'll be able to burn off more calories.

CC a lot of cat owners don't know that there mind are mixed up with a realated cat parasites called Toxoplasma gondii it makes them much more cat friendly and oblivious to there harmful behavior!
