its what we're here for

Carton?? Hmm... She will climb out and rupture it. Don't ask me how I know.... :(

Pretty much the higher the better, IMHO. And keep a damp papertowel in the bottom of whatever you use, or it will stick & dry out and you'll have a mess on your hands.
I've been told it's all dry and crispy...is it ok to cut off? You say high...is that as close to belly button as possible? It won't bleed out will it? Trying to instruct over the phone! Very hard and stressful!

I don't think you are supposed to cut it off! MC, help? Someone?

Where did I say to cut it off? I just meant put it in a cup with a high edge so it cannot get out.

If it is still absorbing yolk... Line a coffee cup with damp paper towels and put the chick and she'll in it so it can't move very much and rip or pull it....

If it really is yolk sac no don't cut it off. From the way it sounds, it sounds like it's just left over umbilical stuff. Umbilical stuff will come off on it's own and doesn't need cut.
