Hi hippie!
Quote: Not possible, 'cause they only lay eggs every 2-4 days.

So how you can exclude the possibility that the difference in the hatching is due to the genetics / fertility /age differences between the mothers? Because my hatch rates are much better when I stick them under broody hens. Fertility is easy... just open the egg and either it was fertile or it wasn't, right? Death at whatever hour/day can be seen easily, and an infertile egg will look perfect, even after being in the incubator for many days.
-Kathy Let me refresh
how you will know if the early deth of an egg was because some genetic problem and not from an incubating problem?
IMO if you take 10 eggs from the same hen and divide it in between broody and bator you will get a much controlled resolts ( and I realy cant help you in solving the eggs age problem!)![]()
No way for me to do a proper controlled experiment, but I started the year with just the incubators and have had many deaths, then switched to broodies and my hatch rates on fertile eggs has gone way up.

YEAH! I AM READY FOR SOME FOOOOOTBALLLL!But we all know I'm just trying to be patient until football starts.
Pea egg hatching experiment...
Set four fresh eggs under a broody yesterday, and today I will put 10 fresh pea eggs in the RCOM, and the remainder of fresh and not so fresh and not so fresh in the Janoel.

They all should be from the same pea hen

Oh, I want in! GO PACK GO!!!!!You should keep a house in Green Bay to stay in from Aug-Jan
Pics?
Ohhh no.... That didnt end well for me.... So it is stuck to the inside of her shell? Can you stick her back in the shell and put her upright in a cup that is narrow and tall enough she can't get out?
Unfortunately I don't have any pics...I'm not in the house, my sister just informed me. I'll see if she can send me some.
Yeh it is still stuck to the membrane I'm guessing, would it work if she was stuck in the bottom of an egg box overnight? Perhaps help to absorb a bit more or something?
I will have a look at that thread as well, thanks everyone!
I am glad she recovered.Evening folks. Released Marguerite Tuesday evening, and just got back from feeding everyone before bed. She's running around, completely fine and even actively figuring out where she's at in the pecking order. Bad news around the house is that the heating element might be broken in the dishwasher again. We leave for Texas in three weeks.
That's about it on my end. How's everyone?
