Thank you so much. I just noticed she? Has diarrhea and it is very sad.
I started with 6 eggs. 2 weren't fertile and 1 died, evidentially. I haven't cracked the egg but it never hatched and wasn't moving.
The strong 2 are happy and running around and eating.
Just wish I knew what to do for the week one. She is stronger than last night. Her diarrhea is new though?

I haven't actually seen it on the floor of coop. It has just run down onto her belly and is dried up. Whitish in color ?hard to tell. But not dark or bloody.

I mostly want them because we have a mite issue and mites can't nest on plastic. Our current ones are wood and they are mite magnets, especially in our wet climate.
I'm surprised metal and plastic nests aren't available in the EU.
You can just use a 5 gallon/20 liter bucket on it's side or a plastic beer/soda case.

Hey, Hippy.
I know you're happy to be going home for a while. How long you going to be able to stay?

There really is "No place like home" I was born in D.C., but we quickly relocated to MD, where I grew up. As a young adult, I couldn't wait to get out of MD. I eventually took a transfer to northern NJ. We were only there for 18 months before we came back to MD so my DW could be with her recently widowed mother. By that time I'd had all I wanted of NJ; entirely too close to NYC for my liking.. MD suddenly looked pretty good by comparison, and we've been here ever since; I don't expect we'll ever leave again, although I hate the liberal laws and politics.
No matter where you're from, for most people home is home. A select few, never want to go back.

It is mixed bag. I am well, but my best goat is sick, I could not get medication yesterday and it will be another 11 hours or so before I can get off to head to the vet.
I got the one of two extensions to runs done though, and all the cockerels caught, banded, and photographed for evaluation so that is good.
How are you?
Nice you got some real work done.

Why is this thread so sluggish?
So I can catch up/keep up without having to multi quote.

I couldn't win a glass of water in a downpour!
I won my first GFM winning a contest guessing the day and time BYC would reach X# of posts - or was it members.
I think my next one came on a comb contest.

Only if was a very light refrigerator
A dorm room model.

Quicky question:

Does it necessarily mean anything, sex-wise, if a 2 month old chick carries a significantly more erect tail than its hatch mates, or is that the different genes from multiple mothers?
For what it's worth, I don't put much stock in the appearance of the tail at 2 months. Then as adults, tail angle is a matter of breed specific SOP. By that I mean, if the tail angle is different from the SOP, it is a flaw. Doesn't affect the bird in any way if you're not intending to show or are breeding to a standard.

Didn't mean to throw everyone into shock with a chick question

What on Earth was I thinking!
You must have been delirious.

No but no structures lost yet which is remarkable. Very cool almost cold out today so this should help them.
We swapped temperatures. It stayed in the 60s for almost 2 days. Now we're in for a week of 90s F.

Kathy will have advice when she gets on.

Diarrhea in chicks is fairly common. Get some probiotics in them and if there isn't a more serious issue, that should clear it up.
Some vitamins like Poly-Vi-Sol without iron may be a good option.

I haven't actually seen it on the floor of coop. It has just run down onto her belly and is dried up. Whitish in color ?hard to tell. But not dark or bloody.

The white is likely urates.

If your talking the fireworks show yes love them. From a distance.

Small Fireworks scare the p out of me. They are actually illegal here but people still do them. Our firefighter neighbor is the worst offender.
firefighters usually are lol, my dad, brother, dh's uncle LOL

Thought some of you might like this:

Look closely, it's two boys and one girl.

LOL!!

That's a lot of eggs, and a nice assortment! Are there any fertile eggs under that broody? I have a mama hen for the first time in a long time. It's fun to watch again.

It's interesting to see how fast they pick up the eating and drinking from the..real mama hen. :)

Beautiful!!
Congratulations, don't show to much excitement, be tough on the negotiations! Aa and try to find somthing that you don't like, and let the seller know it!
Good luck!
A another thing don't fell to the trick of the mirror or the fresh backed cake smell!
Agreed! The house is only 200 years old, but it needs a TON of work, and so does the barn unfortunately. So we will probably not end up buying it :(

I can't say I dreamt of Sally, but I knda did. I know she had some of her extra ducks delivered to me. She didn't think I would notice a few black and white ducks umung my pure white ones.

Hi everyone! So Due to popular demand, I have managed to coax my chicks into posing for some up to date photos...
From teaching them where the food is:
To a massive improvement in the chick with complications:

My second hatch has certainly been an eventful one!
YAYYY we all love pictures!

I just wanted to pull the ones that are clears if there are any. The temps here are nice today, but high ninties with heat indexes way over 100 are due all week. Should I risk a nasty mess? My eggs are not all fertile yet.
i wouldnt touch them

Thanks to everybody who helped me out the other night with my hatch-2 spunky serama chicks both doing great go far-hatched 1 day apart. Today is day 20 for my other 2 so will see in the next couple days if anything else hatches-I have some shipped silkie eggs in there too. The ones that hatched were from my 2 seramas-proud parents Barry and Patty!
Congrats!

we have lift off

while I was gone to lowes one hatched one zipping
Awesome!!

Hello! I was trying to read this thread via my iPhone, but could not really understand the first few posts so I just wandered away lol. I guess you caught me! I'm still on my phone though and the mobile app is really buggy so I can't use it much, and the page is big and cumbersome in my internet browser.

But anywho, I borrowed an incubator from a friend so hopefully I will be getting some eggs here soon.

Yes, yes I do! I pretty much grew up on them. I'm pretty sure I've ridden more than I've walked in my life (and I do a lot of walking).

Unfortunately I don't own a horse right now due to financial and health reasons.
Welcome!! it is a fast moving thread so jump on whenever you feel and dont worry about missing posts! Good luck!!!

Sorry I didn't update. I was up all night. 2 out of the 5 chocks passed. The first one I should have assisted but I waited to long. The second one I think I assisted to soon. I felt so awful about that one. The third is still up in the air. She seems to be doing better but she had a vein cutting off circulation to her eye and neck. She was also sticky and I couldn't get her dry. I gave her a bath this morning and that's helped. The other one I assisted is amazing. I helped right on time and she pulled through great. Very healthy. She is doing better then the one that hatched itself. This was only my 3rd hatch. Hopefully with more experience I can do better next time.

Aww, it never gets old. I have a broody mama for the first time in a long time..have I shared her photos? I posted them everywhere it seems..like no one has ever seen a mama hen. But here goes anyway!

Fun to watch again.
So cute!!

barnie.gif
COONS!!!!! I knew there were some around, but last night I was getting home late to do chores. I reached for the barn light and saw something run that I registered was not my cat, but before I fully processed that I saw the other three startled racoons staring at me from three feet away from around the cat food bowl sitting on the crate.
I wish I had a shotgun (just a rifle and hand guns) I hate these bloody live traps.
a rifle would work, my BIL shot a gopher yesterday with a 9mm at 25 yards

Hello from my Vacation !

Nice Avy!!

Egg update.
Incubator was unplugged for my entire shift at work last night. Returned to normal working conditions upon realization. Am not optimistic at this point but stranger things have happened.

Speaking of being arrested there's a shooter at large last seen one mile from our house at 3:00. All advised to stay inside. Crud there's lots of places he can hide here. Going out to lock up the barns. Trying to get more information now. I'd rather face a rattlesnake. Hope the have him by now.
oh geez!

Or the cougar gets him. At least he picked the right neighborhood to try and hide. Every house out here is armed.

I only lost one pound since last weigh in.

Same to you.
I'm working around here, the rest of the family is working all day today. Restaurant business.
We did our barbecue feast yesterday. I told my wife to let me check the radar for when there would be a break in the weather. She said, "I'm barbecuing regardless".
So she stood in the rain with an umbrella at the pit.
Homemade potato salad, made from scratch macaroni and cheese, deviled eggs, vegetable/chicken kabobs, pork steaks and brats.
I should have taken a picture. I'm having leftovers today.
lol, sounds delicious!!

Our colorful egg production is coming right along.

Chaos and Whites and Dax. The guy turned himself in today.
good to hear!!

There are three times it's guaranteed to rain here:
When you have a field of hay down, waiting for it to dry
During the week of the local carnival, which usually encompasses the 4th of July
During the county fair in Sept.
sounds just about right!!
