I just use plastic buckets - although the entire coop is wood, and the frame to hold the buckets is wood....

That is incredible that no structures were lost. Saturday there was a San Bernadino fire that only burned 10 acres, but took out 5 houses. 3 totally destroyed, 2 heavily damaged. When things are this dry, they burn fast!!!

My town only incorporated in 1969, but my house was built around 1903. I think it's one of the oldest houses still standing. The town used to be called Simiopolis....thankfully shorted to Simi in 1910. I grew up in a house built in the 1800's back east. There isn't much like that out here.

I see SOP as Standard Operating Procedures, is that the same in the chicken world?

Good morning all!

I lost a bunch of my quotes again. These are the ones I can remember...

Congratulations on successful Hatches SilverHair and Gge23!!

Adorable broody photos Cynthia12!!

Congratulations on the Goat Chaos! It's so cute!!!

I can't remember anymore...

Well, my pup survived the night, although the fireworks didn't completely stop until around 2 am. She found her way into a back bedroom that was quieter, and the benedryl knocked her out. So, I finally got some sleep. She seemed to be a little needier this morning, but not too bad. I'm definitely going to talk to the vet about next year.

Of the chicks I just hatched, I lost one of the Ayem Cemanis - they are crowded, and it looked like he was crushed. I took out all the bigger chicks and left about 20. The chick I have with seizures is doing better - but it's also an Ayem Cemani. I'm guessing bad genes? I found an EE chick with 1 splayed leg. It's hanging out with the AC in a separate brooder. I'll rubber band it tonight. Everybody else seems to be healthy and happy.

I didn't get the broody area built out in my coop. I'll try that tonight, and will move the 2 broodies down there, and will give them my day 14 eggs. I'll check the eggs they are sitting on, but I don't think anything is fertile. The roos were all taken out as soon as they started crowing. The 6 month old SF roo didn't start crowing till this weekend, and he was trying to play with the ladies, but they wanted nothing to do with him. All the ones I've incubated in the past have been duds.

Happy Hatching everyone!
SOP is the standard of perfection (i think?)

good luck with all the eggs/broodies, hopefully you get some chicks out of those eggs
