What is Bill's purpose for getting the birds in the first place? Maybe Bill likes toy chickens.

Apparently Bill just wanted to say he had chickens, and have them eat a few bugs. It completely escapes him that if he is already buying the meat and eggs, he should just harvest his own birds. He just hunted, shot and killed a deer. He is not very bright IMO to not get the other birds.
