Hello everyone.

Not sure if this is the right place. I'm normally in the Emergencies forum.  I don't know much about hatching and Silkies are not my specialty for sure. Silkie Girl 1 is having a problem with a just hatched Silkie, suspecting water on the brain. Most common treatment (for older chicks) is administering liquid feed. But since this is a just hatch, can you even try to give it liquid feed, vitamins, etc.

Any insight would be great, here is her Emergency plea.

I've got so much to learn.

Have a Happy Day everyone!

For those who asked Daisy Mae is up and with the other goats again so she is improving

I have lost her milk for the year, but it looks like she is going to recover

Awesome!! Better to lose the milk than the goat!

I have a big silkie only pen. As all the hatched babies hit about 2 months old, I pull the silkies out and put them into the silkie only pen. Last night, as I was trying to catch 5 silkies out of 25 or so various sized babies. This is in a pen I have to hunch over. First pass, I caught 2, handed them out to be carried to the silkie pen. Went to grab 2 more, eventually caught them, and as I walked back to the gate, the 20 or so panicking babies that I didn't catch were pushing their way out. They actually got the gate opened that I hadn't latched. So, I spent 20 minutes trying to round up the escaped babies. Finally moved the non escaping chicks inside, and shut their door. Then I left the gate to the run open and waited. They all eventually wandered back in, wanting to be let back into the coop.

I find lock down time is the best time to integrate. Most of the crowd is intent on roosting and mellowing out for the night. They are more accepting. Sometimes I have to pull them back out the following morning. That's awesome that they didn't go after her.
sounds like a fun filled evening lol
Okay, I will just tell.
After Duckling was sound asleep, I put a bunch of latex gloves in my pocket, and went out to find the dead smell and move the broodies.
I cleaned the duck pen out, and put up a barrier to keep chicks in, and everyone else out. I then went to find the stench. I located Stevie Nick's head, and picked her up. I put her in the other room, and she flipped. No biggie. I knew she would be back. I located three foamy eggs and cleaned off the other ELEVEN eggs.

I felt movement in a few. It was kinda hard to carry them into the other room because they were wiggling!

I still suspect that all of the eggs are from the first one sitting to the second. None since. I also only expect three babies. Just a guess.
I managed to get my hair caught in the very full sticky fly trap.

I went to move the wall (a few screws, and it can be moved two feet in either direction) but decided against it. When these chicks are gone, I am hoping to keep the room for myself again. I miss having an actual storage room and place to sit undisturbed with a bird or two.
I can tell you one thing, I am so glad to have plastic boxes! That mess would have been so much worse with a wood box. Especially one that I could not detach from the wall!
good job! sounds like you deserved a beer or 12

You sound like me arguing with myself over whether to hatch duck eggs now or not!

i dont see an argument, obviously you will hatch them
have they already started laying??

Hi! Thanks...
I'm wondering if you guys can help me.
Tomorrow is lockdown for my chicken eggs but I am full of anxiety. I worry if I put too much water in the pot inside the incubator, the humidity will be too high but if I don't put enough water in then the humidity will be too low and I will have to take the lid off the incubator and risk potentially drying out the membranes of the chicks if they begin to pip. Can anyone help me
Good Luck, looks like you got lots of good advice but @mlm Mike has the same bator, if you have issues you could tag him

You too. I figure if I let them keep growing and wait till everybody should have curls then I can pick boys and girls.
who has the curl?

This is what $1500 worth of $100 bills look like after being
mulched by a 24hp mower deck when you forget to
take an overly long wallet out of your pocket.

DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS AT HOME

oh geez that stinks!!

Then how am I supposed to try it at home?
monopoly money

Do they still sell any candy for a penny? I use to make a fortune jacking the prices up and selling it at school.
they still have it around here

How is it even possible i was 600 post behind.....long day....howdy late nighters......just got home from the show.....just letting the AC cool the bedroom for a while.
hope you and your wife had a great time!

Do any of you know where the rubber band and straw method for leg issues is located? I am trying to find it for someone with a Keet with a tendon issue.
i'll see if i can find it and tag you

Yep; a hand-tooled leather wallet I'd made & given to Dad many years ago, and gotten back when he died.

I checked my past posts, but they only go back 100 posts & I didn't find anything
i'll see if i can find it

Morning all. Quail eggs going in today, have over30 now to set.Wish me luck. Think the basement was a major no no in bator placement.

Rain yesterday a quarter of an inch, still had to water some things dang it.
good luck!!

She is carrying the eggs in her armpits.

awww!! Shes so cute!

You can also contract it by touching an animal, like a goat, if you touch them in a place that has come in contact with it.
so true!!!

Are you seeing the same reaction while eating mango? The poison ivy and mango are ftom the ssme plants family.
