Dogs have been successfully trained to not chase chickens. Maybe eventually I can give these collies a real job and let them herd the chickens.

Also, I managed to get some paint on the coop. I'm still going to ask the husband if he will help me build a new one, especially since his dad and mom are both away for two weeks on holiday.
I'm not positive, but I believe the Collie was a herding dog in the beginning.

Hi, I've just candles my duck eggs on day 10, I've discarded 9, 6 of which looked infertile and one with a blood ring. Is the space down the bottom look normal? Also how do the air cells appear to you for day 10?

Most of them look like they have veining to me. The 6th picture down looks like a blood ring to me though.

Quote: I once saw a demonstration where a handler & young dog were at one end of a ring, with a pipe corral at the far end. A flock of sheep was turned into the ring, and the dog was supposed to herd the sheep into the corral. Unfortunately, the sheep had played the game numerous times before, and knew what would eventually happen, so as soon as they were turned into the ring they headed straight for the corral. The poor dog didn't know what to do, since the sheep were already where he was supposed to have put them. The handler, wearing a mic, said he guessed it was time to start using a new bunch of sheep!

Thank you. I thought so too so I had discarded that one. How do the air cells look to you (I'm new to this) and is the clear bit at the bottom lnormal?
I usually don't discard anything until I'm absolutely positive. However, most of my eggs are too dark to see much.

I'm definitely no expert either but I think your aircells look close to mine. I've weighed mine and they are on track for weight loss so I'm really relying more on that. The clear areas in the egg are normal. That won't fill in until the embryo is further developed and starts to fill out the egg more.

You didn't know that?
Nope!

Those air cells look quite large for day 10. The space at the bottom is fine. Did you open the eggs you thought were infertile to check? I have had eggs that took a day or so longer to show their development. There are a few reasons this is could be.

I seem to not have the duck air cell chart on the computer. The chicken one is still a good guide.
