chaos isnt the black the positive, red negative,
so the black line goes from xcord to stat, to bulbs, then red goes from bulbs back

they use the other end of the xcord to power the ac adapter

AC adapter is separate. It's for fans only so they have a constant power supply. Either way your thermostat needs a positive and a neutral going in to it from the power source.

oh, so the top connector on the thermo should have a red wire coming off of it, not black, and the black one from the bottom connector on the thermo should run to the right connectors on the bulbs

When the wafer heats up, it expands and presses in a little point in the micro-switch on the other side, breaking the connection.

So it only needs power going to it then.
