No it's right. I was getting it confused with the electronic thermostat's I wired. Although at the top connector of the thermo in this picture you could wire the two bulbs together and then run a single wire to the connection point, like it's shown with the red wire.

even if you run a single black wire off the thermo you still will nee to split it to have a parallel circuit, or if one bulb dies the circuit is broken and eggs go cold?

Yea if you wire the red side like the black side but connect it to the thermo instead of the extension cord.
