I am way behind in posts, I'm sure you've seen answers to this somewhere in the 300 posts I haven't yet read, but I have 3 of them.  All 3 are WAY too hot for me to touch for long periods of time, but the babies LOVE THEM.  My chicks are way quieter and happier than when I had heat lamps.  They also sleep all night, they don't really start making noise until the sun comes up.    The only problem i have with them is that I have to pick up the whole plate to see the chicks, and they they won't MOVE when I try to put it back down.

I don't think I could keep my hand there for a full 10 seconds....but I"m a wimp.

I did get some help but thank you for replying! Gives ya piece of mind when you know you aren't the only one. As for having to pick it up, I was doing that too. Then I said screw it and just started using the camera on my phone :D

Ok, this is the weekend I have to move all my chickens. I have some place that is willing to take all the laying hens (they have bought about 20 birds from me over the past year). They are willing to keep them forever if we want, or just until we have the ability to take them back.

She also left a voice mail saying she'd take all the babies as well - has lots of people that she can sell them to for us. I don't think she realizes how MANY babies I have.

I THINK I have someone that might be willing to let me set up a coop at their house. I am going to meet with him tomorrow morning, sketch out what I need, and he'll let me know if he is able to help. I'm hoping I can move the babies I want to keep, over to his place, just long enough for me to change my zoning.

As far as the city.....4 years ago I sort of bought this place. Since the builder was my lender, we treated it like a lease option. I finally re-financed and am technically buying it from him (exercising the lease). I should be closing next Wednesday. Once I'm the OWNER of this property, I can try to change my zoning and bring my chickens back.

Hope all goes as planned. I haven't heard back from the guy I mentioned yet.

I've got 6 Cayuga eggs left that haven't hatched. Two have large pip holes and I'm thinking they will hatch tonight. Two more just have their first small pip. Two more have pipped in the last hour but on the wrong end! The last Buff duck was the same way so hopefully these two make it out as well :fl I can still see them all wiggling when I candle so at least I know they're still alive!

Me too, so I learned to add a fake egg or two so they would keep using the same nest. Sometimes worked (not always...)

Long busy day, and I need to get the resting chickens into the freezer this evening. I think I might need a nap first - soooooo tired...

I wasn't offered ducks from Liz either. :(
I don't really want them laying there. However, I would love to know if my Pekin moved her nest, or isn't laying.

Never said you wanted them but I can see how many I can get :)
