Banti duck twelve hours after hatching.

:love Wow, I was adorable!

It is dried up, but it is not fluffed. I had this with my chickens, and a little bath did the job. But I'm worried about his eye because he is able to close and open it but he preferred to keep it close. His eyes are also abnormally large.

They'll be better over time. Eye abnormalities are usually related to high temperature or low oxygen in the first week of incubation.

Usually, by the time you discover an incubation related problem, it is too late to do anything about it. Just let them be and hope.

Chick one is standing on pip two's shell. I'm going to roll it pip up again soon.
Pip three is zipping. Should be out in the next twenty minutes. I think I saw pip four, but the chick knocked it around before I could see.

10 out of 18 pipped here so far. They are due in 16 hours

There is a clear 4F difference between the side of the incubator with the hatching eggs and the 1 week eggs.

I screwed up a bit. I segregated eggs by the flock# and the color of the eggs. I didn't do so by the ascorbic acid dip.
So all I can do now is see which ones hatch better, not how vigorous the chicks are after hatch.

There is always next time.
Hatch a batch counts days differently than they should. Day 21 does not start for one more hour.
A third chick has zipped its shell, but has not broken out yet. It was finishing its zip before I got in the shower, so only about 15 minutes ago.
The second pip was bleeding (yes, I bothered it when I was rolling it back over). It had begun to zip, and I wanted to be stupid. No excuse. I was just eager. I'm pretty sure it will be fine.
