a chicken sweats out her beak, not her underside....  she does pack a nest, and some have been seen to carry water to the nest, thats in studies.
and perhaps hatch is in fact faulted in a nest box without ground under to cool them down at those temps for too long?  dont think I seen studies on them :lau

that good nuff?

My daddy thinks he is real funny texting me stuff now that he has got a smart phone, actually he is pretty hilarious

The SNL skit a few weeks back was pretty awesome
I didn't see it but I saw her on a interview later saying she didn't realize exactly how live that show was. Apparently she made some kind of face after getting through her song, lol.

Hey Everyone! Just candled my 14 eggs, this is day 4, and 14/14 are alive! Of course, they are just a bunch of veins right now.... But I'm waiting for the cute, fluffy chick part. When I candled the eggs, I found one of them has two circular cracks where something bumped it, and hairline fractures sprouting everywhere from them. Chick is one of the most developed, and cracks are on air cell end, and air cell has covered one of them fully already, so I think that one will make it!

Oy vey, catching up with this post when I'm 2 days behind is hard. I did a lot of skimming. Don't ask me what I read, cuz I don't remember now.

Other than that, 9 out of 9 SFH eggs in lock down yesterday. Anxiously awaiting first pip. The lone LV egg hatched. One egg I candled, and you could see it pipped thru a blood vessel, there were blood splotches all over the egg, it was weird. The other was DIS, never pipped internally. Sad day

. I grabbed the smallest of the marans chick to put in the box w/the LV, and today every once in a while they'll come out do the "Where are you??" call... I wonder if they can hear something I can't...

My husband is in Pittsburgh for work, was a last minute "you're going" trip. I have issues sleeping when he isn't here. Couldn't sleep until after 3 am yesterday, got up at 6:30 w/the dog, slept for another hour, took the littlest to school, then slept a couple hours more. I should try to go lay down right now...
I put 10 duck eggs in lock down yesterday and one already had a pip. Good luck to you.

I'm stealing this

That sounds awesome. I'd just love to go with someone that knew what they were doing.
It can be frustrating even when you know what you're doing. Nothing more aggravating than to have a big old gobbler sneak up behind you and having no chance at a shot. You have to sit there and listen to him drumming as he goes by... :barnie

Well my early pipper is progressing. She's not exactly following protocol. She pipped early, pipped high in the air cell and her zipping seems to be going down the egg towards my 'X' and not around the egg. She's very vocal this morning.

I forgot to mention that I have quite a bit of condensation on the windows. Will it hurt her if I quickly open and wipe them dry?
