mornin Paddler and everyone else! Paddler I know your peeves on outside cats. I am trying hard to let them stay downstairs but they keep wanting to comeupstairs and be killed by all the springers, is it possible to introduce kittens to five springers and not get them killed?
...
Not sure but it would probably teach them a lesson to stay downstairs. Cats like to have the run of the whole place.

As you know, I've always been anti outdoor cat due to the damage they do to wildlife but this past Saturday I was listening to a radio program about pets sponsored by Purina. They have an animal savvy host and a veterinarian.
The vet started the show by telling people to keep their cats indoors saying, "only bad things can happen to cats let outdoors".
What comes to mind is; being run over by cars, killed by coyotes and other predators, getting into fights with other cats, not to mention picking up parasites and diseases.
Oh, and I forgot traps.

anyone know anything about fossilized teeth? my kid found these in a creek at grammas house the other weekend. they are some type of stone and really really cool

Perhaps run it by the university paleontology department.

lol not a turd
Not even a petrified turd?

Is he Israeli?

A Firetiger jointed Rapala trolled at 2.4 knots over a mid lake saddle that had just the right amount of weeds.

But i had been getting them on a Firetiger deep diver....but a big pike inhaled and then broke my 10 pound leader.
Walleye here have to be 15"....this one was 18"......they have been running 17 to 20" the last few trips.
Another reason I'm glad my Bone Marrow Transplant worked....now I'm trying to live long enough for the grandkids to remember me.....

I'm sure you guys have a lot more walleye than we do. More habitat for them.

Here's a list of the rivers and lakes where we have walleye and sauger with the limits. I don't think I've ever seen a sauger.
It's mostly the heavily spring fed streams.

I like it. We do that stuff here too. Also pickup bed hot tubs and poor man's ice skating rinks.

I'd rather live in ND than NY.
Depends on what part of NY. It's a pretty big diverse state. Adirondack Park is amazing. It's bigger than Yellowstone, Everglades, Glacier and Grand Canyon Parks combined.

Ever been to ND?
I haven't.
Nor AK, HI, CT, DE, ME, NH, SD, ID, MA or VT
I guess that makes 39 I've been to.

Ants in my coop.

Can I ask the folks with HORSE experience a question? My daughter has been riding since she was 5 (she's 9 now). Her pony that she has ridden for the last 3 years lost his eye this summer and she had to switch to a new pony. She's done great adjusting to him even though he is a very jumpy horse and her other pony was very laid back. Anyway, a couple of weeks ago her riding instructor asked her to ride another pony for a video for the veterinarian to pin point a problem he was having with his hind leg. While she was on him he freaked out for no reason and started bucking and threw her. Knocked the wind out of her and bruised her back, cut her elbows and palms up too. Her worst fall to date. She got back on the pony she's been riding the next week and had a total meltdown, crying, panicking... she's so scared now (he isn't even the one that threw her). Anyway, she told me today that she thinks she wants to take a break. Advice? Should I let her take a break or should I push her to keep riding and overcome her fear? I KNOW she loves it! (I have no horse experience and am scared of them personally, but I have never let my fear stop her from riding.)
I think you've gotten really good advice so far.
I think letting her take a break is fine. After the pain goes away, she'll likely want to ride again.

Little guy sitting on the ground killing ants when the preacher happened by and asked the boy what he was doing. kid says "I'm killing these GD ants". Preacher says "You shouldn't take the Lord's name in vain, son, and hate is a strong word that you shouldn't use. Name me three things that you truly hate."
Kid thinks for a minute, then says "Vegetables, school, and these GD ants."

This happened at a New York Airport.

An award should go to the United Airlines
gate agent in New York for being smart and funny,
while making her point, when confronted with a
passenger who probably deserved to fly as cargo.

For all of you out there who have had to deal
with an irate customer, this one is for you.

A crowded United Airlines flight was cancelled.

A single agent was rebooking a long line
of inconvenienced travelers.

Suddenly,
an angry passenger pushed his way to the desk.
He slapped his ticket on the counter and said,

"I HAVE to be on this flight and it has to be FIRST CLASS."

The agent replied, "I'm sorry, sir.
I'll be happy to try to help you,
but I've got to help these folks first;
and then I'm sure we'll be able to work something out."

The passenger was unimpressed.

He asked loudly,
so that the passengers behind him could hear,

DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHO I AM?"

Without hesitating,
the agent smiled and grabbed her public address microphone.

"May I have your attention, please?", she began,
her voice heard clearly throughout the terminal..

"We have a passenger here at Gate 14
WHO DOES NOT KNOW WHO HE IS.
If anyone can help him with his identity,
please come to Gate 14."

With the folks behind him in line laughing hysterically,
the man glared at the United Airlines agent,
gritted his teeth, and said, "F*** You!"
Without flinching, she smiled and said,
"I'm sorry sir,
you'll have to get in line for that, too."

No, they're supposed to be babies forever.
But then they would never lay eggs or be able to fend for themselves.

I am hoping someone can help me. Does anyone know what causes a chicken to lay an egg that has no shell? It has just the membrane part. Am I doing something wrong? I hope someone can help me as I am worried I am not giving them something in their diet. Thanks so much!
How old is the bird and is this the first one?
Possible causes are: an immature shell gland
Diseases such as Newcastle, infectious bronchitis, avianinfluenza, Egg Drop Syndrome, etc.
Inadequate nutrition. The following have to be in the correct ratio calcium, phosphorus, manganese, vitamin D3
So just adding calcium isn't always the answer.

Good luck with them.
Thanks. I have to drive up to Davenport, IA this weekend to get the birds. That's over 5 hours each way. Her husband is driving back from Washington to deliver some Cotton Patch Geese and White Chanteclers to Iowa and Indiana so I'll meet him on his way.

I've been trying to find them in Central America too. I may end up getting eggs from Spain if I can find the Classic rather than the Improved variety.

Several months ago I found a rooster with a nasty infected eye, but no other signs of respiratory infection, so I removed the pus as best as I could and set him free. Several days later the pus was back, so I did it again, but this time I was more aggressive and manged to get this out of his choanal slit:

Cause of sinus infection was the foxtail. To get it out I had to apply pressure to the area between his nostril and his eye. No antibiotics were given.

You always post the most appetizing pictures at lunch time.

@BantyChooks , how's the hatch progressing? @ChickenCanoe , how about your hatch? Who else is hatching now?

-Kathy
I've had 8 hatches since May 30. I have 19 cockerels and 33 pullets from those hatches.
I set 18 eggs due to hatch tomorrow this time of day. Only 5 survived the 104.9 temperature spike. One of those 5 is pipped this morning.
When I saw the pip, the temp was at 100.9. I turned it down and just checked it and it went up to 102.2.

ETA
It's down to 99.8 now.
